What were your first ever non gunpowder guns?

Post by deadkitty » 17 Oct 2016, 6:02 pm

My first gun was a made in China out of tin, a break open "shotgun " that fired two corks attached to string...which was quickly removed.... Then a spring operated Military style semi auto that fired actual plastic bullets....complete with cases .... range about 10 ft, (about 3 mts for you young blokes), then a spud gun... wonderful things, living in Ireland there was no shortage of spuds.... Then the air rifles BSA and Dianna... life was simpler back then, shooting your siblings was sometimes encouraged... 8-) Cheers

First rifle I owned was a Norinco .177 air rifle when I was thirteen shooting with PCYC.
I was an army cadet at the time and we drilled and paraded with demilled SLR rifles - do they count?
We also got to shoot the M16's up at Northam army base North of Perth, semi-auto only, but the instructors demo'ed them on full-auto for us, and I shot for the cadet small-bore team but I don't recall what those rifles were now.
The first real rifle I owned was a Ruger 10/22.
First centrefire was a Remington 788 in .222.
First handgun was a Tanfoglio P19 9mm.

Cap gun...

Never had real guns growing up but used to practice shooting with my mate over the road with a little 177 slug gun and a 22 slug gun, springers. Can't remember the brands but the 22 was a big old thing with a cocking lever under the forearms. The 177 was your typical break open sluggy. This was between 12-15 in the mid '80s.

My first non powder gun was a beautiful looking break action pop gun ... until my mother decided that toy guns were bad, and yes she is still an idiot when it comes to the topic of guns.

I've never seen one like it since.

Shortly after that it was a paper roll cap gun that mysteriously went missing followed by a better plastic ring cap gun that also grew legs and disappeared :unknown:

For my kids it's this rubber band gun.
It has adjustable trigger tension, a metal butplate and a steel reinforced peg.
They love it, and so do I
I keep the high powered rubber bands for myself.
