I'm new to the forum so thought I'd say hi.
My name's Russ I enjoy firearms, hunting and shooting!
I'm looking forward to getting to know you guys better in the coming months and learning/ sharing info with you all.

Cheers!

G'day Russ and everyone else on here.
Like you Russ, I am a newby, 2nd post, I put this brief intro up with the first one, but I thought I would post it here as well.
Just a quick introduction. I am a farmer and earthmoving contractor, hunter for over 5 decades, started from when I could walk (with dad), also into, big game (buffalo etc, in the NT) and pigging with dogs, sporting clays and pistol.
I joined this forum as I am a hunter and shooter, but also because I was hoping to find a shooting forum where the discussion was held in a civil and polite manner, judging by what I have seen so far this looks like the right pace.
I am big on shooters sticking together and working to fight the anti's rather than each other.

Thanks for the compliment, I am just an ordinary bushie, working my but off to fight to see no more onerous conditions are placed on LFO's, and hopefully we will be able to claw back some of those already lost.
Cheers mate.

Hi all
New member here, thought I might sign up and maybe get to know some folks who might like to catch up for a shot/hunt/camp some time.
Been into outdoors stuff since I was born, family take up alot of my time nowadays but I do get out often enough to hunt deer and fish off the beach.
Cheers

G'day Kai,
Welcome aboard. My hunting days are fairly much over now, and fish have always died laughing when they see me coming! But I hope a few here can join you going bush. In my Grand-Mothers tongue, Kai means food, a good sign for a hunter.

Update: it's been a while, but I finally got me licence today! Took a while longer than anticipated since the RMS doesn't do on-the-spot printing of licences anymore.

Anyway, I've been hemmed and hawed about it, but I've more-or-less settled on clay shooting (rather than benchrest).

The old man and I will be stopping by our LGS tomorrow morning to have a good gander at their wares. I'm hoping to place an order for a Browning Citori Sporter, and then it's just another excruciating 28-day wait for the registry to process the PTA.

Where did you arrive at 28 days for your first pta (sorta reminds me of a movie line "tell him he dreaming son" ) more like 40 for first 5 days for snail mail each way.
This always makes me wonder when i first started shoot i wanted to try everything why just shoot clays they are terrible to cook have a go at long range at bench dont limit it to clays you will get bored with it real quick

Yeah, the 28 day estimate is a bit optimistic. They said the licence application itself was 28 days, but it was a good 6 week wait, then plus another 2 weeks for the RMS to send my licence to me. I figure ~6 weeks for the PTA is a fair estimate.

Re: clays. I'll just be starting off with clays and trying a bit of each variation: trap, skeet, sporting clays and 5 stand. I'll definitely have a second look at benchrest at some stage, but having a decent clay range nearby makes a shotgun more attractive.

Also, I bumped my budget up a bit and put down a deposit for a Miroku MK10 Grade 1 30".

Ugh, now I've got the itch for a centrefire rifle: thinking of submitting another PTA on top of the one that's now processing. A sudden surge of interest in hunting and I'm sitting here eye-deep in online discussions about bloody camouflage!

But I think a Sako 85 .308 might just be the ticket!

Joined the ADA on the spur-of-the-moment decision: I think the local branch held meetings a few times at a local German-Austrian club? Great food, if memory serves right from the few times I've had dinner there. Not sure where they congregate now, will need to get in touch with the local branch.

Festus, wait for the first PTA. Once that clears, you can apply for one through the shop and have it approved and rifle purchased in the same day.

Festus is north of the border and subject to the NSW PTA random issue lottery. Could be 5 weeks, could be 8 or maybe they lose the paperwork and you have to start again. That said, I did get my first center fire pistol PTA's back in my hand 30days after posting and have had long arm PTA's back within 7 working days. I think there's a bit of a backlog in NSW at the moment as long arm PTA's are taking 2-3 weeks and I've been waiting 12days for some pistol PTA's that show a status of "PTA Application being processed by Firearms Registry" since the 16/3. We can check the progress online using the link below which is about as customer focused as the NSW Police forearms registry gets.
