Shooting at AFP Melb HQ

So there you have it, next firearms ban in the making. AFP will now be given crayons instead.

p.s.
Really hope this is something amusing, rather than self-harm or an argument gone horribly wrong.

So on the radio i heard she was shot and not looking for suspect, then they went on saying about lifeline and get help if needed, so presume there talking suicide, not a great start to the day.

Should NEVER have been reported by the lowest of low 'media', yet when they do its a "firearm incident", you know, to involve all firearm owners... instead of the reality of "mental health" or "workplace" incident...

THEN they cant even call it for what it was;

A suicide.

They don't make a big deal about it cos they worry it might encourage others to do the same thing, that's why you never really hear about suicides much even though they happen daily.

As unfortunate and sad as it is, i have a feeling it's a little hush hush because it was a afp memeber and a service weapon, i can only imagine the s**t storm if a lafo used their sporting firearms

It was reported as a shooting, because that's what was released to the media. So while the media should be the first against the wall when the revolution comes, in this instance they are really not to blame. They reported it as is.

Once it was obvious that it was suicide, they are trying to let it go. Not because it's AFP, but because news of suicide actually makes it worse to those who are thinking about it. :/ There's nothing to write about... Other than what was overdone - mental health in law enforcement, because they are afraid to see someone about it because it a career limiting move in their opinion. I believe defence forces are the same too. Unfortunate.

average of 8 to 9 suicides in Aus every single day. an AFP officer is no more special than a civilian (or less for that matter).... this was reported because it ticked more boxes....gun, cop, city, death.... The media knew EXACTLY what it was, person shot (& critical at time) and NO-one was either arrested or being sought, 'not' suspicious and not an accident.... they never 'call' it a suicide, but add the "call lifeline" bizo at the bottom of their reports......

I do feel sorry for what the officer must have been going through at the time... and of course the family.

edit to add;
I've probably said more about the matter than i wanted to.... I'll leave it there.

Agree with you, if that was indeed the case. However, when I noticed the story late night - there were no lifeline references, etc. Just that a shooting has occurred, there are no susspects, which could mean a number of things. Later the story for updated with lifeline reference, the end.
