Pull through. What's the advantage ?

Post by colinbentley » 13 May 2017, 7:18 pm

I've not used a pull through before but my gunsmith thinks it may solve a problem I've had with a build up of foreign matter in the chambre in spite of a meticulous cleaning routine. What is the advantage of a pull through as opposed to just a cleaning rod and patches. ? Apart from the fact that it is more convenient to use at the range.

Pull through's are pretty handy, i always have one squirreled away in my hunting gear incase a barrel gets plugged or something, they won't give a proper clean in my opinion but are good at getting all the loose junk out, if your going to use one clean it often and make sure its pulled straight out of the muzzle, the trapped carbon can act like sand paper if you drag it out of the muzzle unevenly

Handy to have on hand in the bush, but I prefer a compact AR15 cleaning kit with a rod. Having a rod lets you clear any mud or anything else from the bore, or push out a stuck cartridge in the chamber, you cant clear a blockage with a pull through.

Do you use a chamber brush and chamber mop?

Just use them camping. A decent kit does a way better job.
