What's the best gun you've fired?

Post by creet » 06 Dec 2013, 7:30 am

It's limited these days, but some of you guys are I'm sure had stuff before '96, or have been in the army, or have been where ever where you can shoot a better range of guns than we have here in Aus.

What's been the best?

Whether just for fun, or shooting some cannon for some loud/recoil fun or whatever does it for you.

What's your best?

Not terribly exotic but a .458 Lott really gets the adrenaline flowing :)

I'm not really into full-auto but an M4 with all the trimming was a bit of fun.

Dot scope, fore-grip and all the 'tactical' extras.

30 rounds in about 3 seconds didn't do my shoulder much good though

We had a BREN on the farm and masses of milsurp, Pop occaisonally let us have a couple of magazines worth . This was in the late seventies in a soldier settlement area so not much was said.

He was a pretty cool Pop and insisted we know about things like that, it was a generation that still remembered the threat of invasion.

He shipped a Bren gun carrier and a Blitz truck back home for use on the farm a year or so after the war was over, having been an armourer and an instructor I reckon he shipped a lot more than just the carrier. All of the work clothes were ex aust army uniform and I hated the boots. There were at least half a dozen crates of .303 ammo just sitting at the back of the implement shed when I was a young bloke in the late seventies.

The BREN carrier didn't last long but the BLITZ was sold in the mid eighties with the farm and is still going.

If you want 'fun' you've gotta get to a range in the states.

AK-47 was kind of sweet as it's "the" movie gun and I can say I've fired a few mags with one.

Pistols was new for me though, this is in the US again. Did a few mags with a 1911 and a Glock.

Pump action shotgun was fun too...

Actually it was all awesome :D

Hard to choose between my (pre'96 theft) Mossberg 12g pump action, Remington 870 (factory camo synthetic stock) 12g pump action - loved that one to bits, and my new fave, my .40-65 Pedarsoli Sharps. In spite of it being ridiculously heavy (12.5kg), ugly, clumsy, lonnnggg and front heavy it oozes COOL!

After starting with and old single shot .22 walking around while my uncle milked the cows , he finally let me
use his semi auto .22 ,used to get a couple of days out of a box with the single shot , and about 20mins with
the semi auto
Later on in cadets got to pump a few mags through a SLR L1A1 kicked a little more than the .22 :D
Back of the ute chasing a certain large flightless bird with a A5 auto shotgun with my primary producer cousins
But back in cadets again 105mm howitzer f**ing huge rush

My brother in law was in the navy and right before he retired we went on a trip on his ship for a few days. When we out in the middle of nowhere the fired flares over the side and let us rip a few rounds through the .50. Talk about a rush!

Yeah mate it was.

Shooting anything new is fun for me, and the US is the place to do it.

M4, Ak-47, pump-action 12g, glock, 1911, UZI... Did all those in one trip and there's plenty more to shoot there.

Coming in late here but on the trip to Phuket I got to fire a .44 mag six shooter, a H&K .45ACP and a saiga 12 gauge. Didn't shoot an AK because they are all converted to .22s

The FN/R1 during my 'army' days, and the .308 CZ nowadays for hunting purposes - totally in love

Many of the guns so far are real fun to shoot but I like old guns with craftsmanship like a 6.5x55 swede or a well made shot gun like the old model 21 Winchester.

I have a 22 Remington 513T it was a WWII training rifle it is one of the most accurate I have ever shot.

"Best" gun I have fired?

Best to me would mean most accurate and that would be Apollo's Stolle Grizzly in 6.5X47 with the 8-80 March. First group I shot from it was under 1/2" at 200 yards.

Having never served in the military and coming to shooting after '96 I've never shot a semi auto rifle so like most Aussies I'll have to wait till I visit the US or SE Asia.
