First Aid

For those interested the Australian Red Cross have a free app available for androids. May also be available for iPhone but I'm unsure. This is a great app that saves taking another book. And it seems to be designed For those that have never been trained. Given hunters often travel to remote areas it could be a life saver. Just add a first aid kit.

Yay OB, that sounds great,,

Back in the 70s I embarked on a course ran by the St John Ambulance as a precursor to being qualified in ambulance transport nursing, and after that doing three years of medical and surgical nursing, before I jumped ship and got into the metal trades.

One of the tutors made a very important statement during a lecture covering knowledge and when to use it.

She said "it's all well and good to have a good first aid kit,,,, but kinda pointless if your patient is dying from lack of breathing, and you have to sit on the side of the road and read a book that tells you what to do."

"Learn the important stuff,, practice,, and remember it all" she said.

When I worked taking campin tours from cairns to the "tip" my boss paid for me to do the senior first aid and then an advanced first aid course and a remote first aid course.
(Using station boxes) cant tell ya how many times it's come in handy especially when we were the first on scene at a major accident. Well worth knowing!!!

Every one should do a first aid course and keep it current. For what it's worth, St John ambulance have an app too. Slightly different interface.

I found it on mine. It's very low down the list though, behind a bunch of never heard of apps.

Only 1000 downloads it says. Not getting much limelight.
Good news, everyone!

Hey js it's based around using rfds boxes that the stations with runways are equipped with. They contain stuff ranging from snake bite antivenene so hypodermic injection, bone setting and splinting using casts(that also covered makeshift casts oyt of pandanus leaves and black boy flowerstems) intubation kits and setting up drips , sutre kits and arterial clamps defib machines and stabilization of the patient til the rfds could get there. Very interesting and extremely important when in remote areas! :drinks:

No internet reception required. It's a first aid book in an app.
