I look at it more as a jigsaw puzzle.....or a test of patience

Here's one that both myself and Wylie27 have beaten "The Ruger rebuild challenge" :D

Meh, minus that torsion looking spring, on the right of the parts, I've never had good experiences with them. They are pure evil. Once I even had to pull one out of my thumb, I won't lie, it hurt, lol.

Now, I'm trying to get as much rust out of this old bore, as I can. I'll try to blast the rest or when I shoot it.

I ordered a couple of "big 45 frontier metal cleaner" a while back. Worth every cent.

Maybe cork the muzzle and fill it with Balistol for a long soak, might help.

Ha, fun and games. You might remember I resurrected a 310 cadet last year

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8510&start=18

I started with over size brushes that eventually wore away that I then wrapped in cotton for a tight fit and copious amounts of solvent did the trick for me. Took a while but I really like the rifle

What about a little bit of JB paste or Autosol on a hoppes soaked patch over a brush. I find this works really well to get out carbon that you would never of thought was there unless you bore scoped it. Not to much just about 6 short strokes near the chamber and three full length strokes on the whole barrel. Perhaps a bit more for a neglected bore.

sungazer, oversized brush and Hoppes carbon solvent works very well on old carbon deposits.

...but when we're talking old neglected barrels, 50+ years, 100+ years, I find that you need something a lot more agressive.

I found this, http://big45.com, basically cut a piece off, wrap it around a brush and go to town. Coupled with constant flushing, like boiling water (to start with) and Lannox liberally sprayed onto the bore (bore on an angle so it can drain). This seems to deliver the best results (at least in my case, with very old, very neglected military barrels).

Totally understand. Never done it for inside a bore before, have cleaned up the outside of stuff that old and condition before though. The Hoppes is really only there to carry the polishing paste. Have you used Autosol before on metals / car rims ect before its great stuff not to abrasive but just enough.

I've tried steel wool. It's nowhere as agressive, as I needed it to be. Becomes very smooth and non abrasive after few strokes, so that's a no go. I'm pretty sure there's another thread about this...

For the external parts you could either use a brass brush on the bench grinder that sounds way to harsh to me. I use three or 4 calico buff wheels each with a different cutting compound or polish compound that gives really nice results.

Give it up at any time.....My wife said she'd pay for me to see an addiction specialist, I told her to just give me the cash so I can buy another gun :D I think she's considering an intervention of sorts.....
