I read somewhere that it's because you can change out a magazine faster with a pistol grip, making for faster reloads.
I've debunked this of course, I can swap out a mag as fast or faster on my Ruger Gunsite Scout than I can on an AR, I've tried.

It seems that many of our laws have been based on what people are scared of or have seen used violently in movies, certainly not in any order of deadlyness........LOOK OUT ! HE'S GOT A BB GUN !

One thing to remember, and a trend I've noticed is that the gov is mostly interested in flatly banning weapons that 'maim' rather than kill. The likelihood of people being maimed is higher than being killed. Its about accountability. Everyone will get pissed and shoot their mate with a BB gun. It is highly unlikely that anyone will get pissed and take pot shots at their mates with a rem 700. Accountability. Weapons that kill can be controlled. Weapons that maim cannot. Accountability. Out.

If I remember right from when the legal side of BB guns was discussed here in another topic, the issue with them is as far as the Government is concerns is that you have no 'genuine reason' to own one.

They're not a tool and can't be used in competitive shooting like a firearm, but could potentially be used to intimidate someone if the looked real enough.

I don't think the concern was really around anyone being hurt.

I tried to sell exactly that style of gun on ebay, It was promptly reported and taken down, this was about two years ago.

I bought a metal revolver cap gun from a $2 shop a few years ago. It didn't shoot caps very well, and the handle was plastic, but it wasn't bad for five bucks.

I tried to buy a replica handgun for collecting purposes online last year and was told they no longer shipped to Victoria since they were banned. What a joke

Either way stuff like the nail clippers is stupid obviously. A lady friend of mine has a plastic nail file taken off her which was about 4cm
