Permanently storing firearm in vehicle?

Post by tuffstuff » 18 Apr 2014, 9:17 am

Can anyone tell me, is there any allowance for permanently storing a vehicle?

Say you had a gun safe bolted to the tray of a ute for example?

What if you have an RV that you want to travel in for months and take your rifle with you?

I think you'll find anything in a vehicle is class under 'carriage' and 'use', not 'storage'.

As above.

I've been through the firearms act enough and don't believe there is anything in it that would allow what you'd call 'permanent' storage in a vehicle.

The issue with vehicles is that no matter how secure the box with a rifle in it is, the vehicle itself can always be taken.

Towed, broken into, stolen, whatever...

This is usually how guns go missing from cars from what I've read... People stealing the cars not realising the guns were locked in the boot.

Thanks for replies guys.

No shooters license if you live in a mobile home then I guess.

I wouldn't imagine this has come up enough in the past for them to address? How many shooters could really *live* in a mobile home and have no fall-back address?

This was from the SSAA mag a while ago, after a bloke had his guns stolen from the car and was charged with improper storage the lawyer argued in the car didn't constitute storage.

Read the whole thing here anyway - Guns in the car.

Some interesting info either way.
