WA to NT Licensing

Post by Westaus » 29 Jun 2016, 12:28 am

Hi Guys,

Sorry if this has been asked before, i had a quick search and couldn't find anything.

Might be moving to Darwin for work from WA and obviously wanting to take my guns along.

From what i gather on the NT police site the process is much the same as WA where a landowners letter is needed, is this correct? Is a serviceability certificate needed?

What are they like up there as far as approving licenses go? I have 7 guns and would hate to get knocked back for any of them.

For reference i have 2x 22lr, 243, 260, 338 win, 7.62x54r mosin and a double barrel 12G.

Thanks in advance, Cheers!

G'Day Westaus

The landowners letter is one way, but not the only option available.

Here you can get a pig hunting permit and a permit to hunt on crown land and that should suffice. Also the clubs btw..

I am not familiar with the term serviceability certificate and when I was in the FPRU here today and asked them I got a blank stare and a don't know what the hello they do in WA. So I'd say that was possibly a no unless the term means registration for each firearm or something in Western Australian  (Perhaps ? Apparently a pistol license is a concealed carry thingamajiggy in QLD  )

You have 3 months to change your drivers license over to NT but not required if you return to your "permanent interstate residence and come back".. (bit of a legal loop hole there I believe) ;) Drivers license :wtf: whats my point

You also have 3 months to change over your firearms license. (possibly the same loop hole exists ?..) :) certainly, still need to be stored correctly :!:

But considering you said that you are moving here, I will take it that you mean that the NT will be your permanent residence..

On that basis, an NT drivers license will be required to obtain a NT firearms license, along with a land owners letter or permit to hunt on crown land / pig hunting permit.

You will also need to provide proof of storage compliance, basically 3 photos of the safe and a description of its location it the residence ie. bed room etc..

You will also need registration paperwork for each firearm and the NT police FPRU will need to inspect and verify each firearm.. so I hope you don't mind them fondling your weapon / s

Here is a link to the Interstate transfer doc.. you will need to make 7 copy's of the "purchase / transfer permit" page that has the fields for the firearms details and fill one for each one. You will see the check box near the bottom for Interstate Transfer...

Sorry for rabbiting on, hopefully there is something that help's you mate.. :unknown: Overall, they are generally pretty good to deal with here ( In my experience )..

If there is anything else, I'll do my best to help !

:drinks:

“Accidental Discharges” DO NOT OCCUR !!

An "Unintended Discharge" is nothing more than the lack of appropriate safety procedures or the failure to follow them..!

I love my country, but fear my government.

Wow, thanks for that mate! Much appreciated.

Yeah in WA you have to apply for the rifle itself and have either club support or a landowners letter for each one, it also needs to be inspected by a firearms dealer and they issue a serviceability certificate that needs to be submitted with the application.

Crown land hunting isn't an option here as far as i know and they love knocking back applications if you have several guns or guns of the same or similar caliber.

Again thanks a lot mate, gives me a good place to start.

Cheers!
