"Assault weapons" ban nonsense - A perfect example

Post by batter » 30 Dec 2013, 8:32 am

This was done by someone in the US of course, but thought I'd share as perfect example of the nonsense the anti-gun brigade are typically using.

Good example worth sharing I thought.

What's the "logic" behind a pistol grip being more dangerous exactly?
Dear Santa,
Please bring me a Desert Tactical Arms SRS-A1 Rifle in .338 Lapua Magnum.
I'll be good with it, I promise!

I think it's because you can "shoot from the hip" with it.

Don't ask me why some idiot thinks that's more dangerous than actually aiming , but that the reason I think.

Some stupid illogical fear no doubt.

As you say, how is being able to spray shots from the hip worse than actually aiming

I read somewhere that it's because you can change out a magazine faster with a pistol grip, making for faster reloads.
I've debunked this of course, I can swap out a mag as fast or faster on my Ruger Gunsite Scout than I can on an AR, I've tried.

It is all verry silly

Pump action .308 on a b class, no worries.... pump action 12 gauge, nup!
Air rifle, ok..... bb gun, nup!
set of 6 steak knives, ok.... switch blade....nup!
Semi auto pistol, ok....... crossbow pistol, no

It seems that many of our laws have been based on what people are scared of or have seen used violently in movies, certainly not in any order of deadlyness........LOOK OUT ! HE'S GOT A BB GUN !
Gun control requires concentration and a steady hand

One thing to remember, and a trend I've noticed is that the gov is mostly interested in flatly banning weapons that 'maim' rather than kill. The likelihood of people being maimed is higher than being killed. Its about accountability. Everyone will get pissed and shoot their mate with a BB gun. It is highly unlikely that anyone will get pissed and take pot shots at their mates with a rem 700. Accountability. Weapons that kill can be controlled. Weapons that maim cannot. Accountability. Out.

Like you can hurt someone with a BB gun though

Does about as much damage as flicking someone...

If I remember right from when the legal side of BB guns was discussed here in another topic, the issue with them is as far as the Government is concerns is that you have no 'genuine reason' to own one.

They're not a tool and can't be used in competitive shooting like a firearm, but could potentially be used to intimidate someone if the looked real enough.

I don't think the concern was really around anyone being hurt.

From what I remember anyway...

I bought a metal revolver cap gun from a $2 shop a few years ago. It didn't shoot caps very well, and the handle was plastic, but it wasn't bad for five bucks.

I tried to buy a replica handgun for collecting purposes online last year and was told they no longer shipped to Victoria since they were banned. What a joke

I don't have any, but I've seen them for sale at markets before.

I gotta laugh at the knives thing when traveling.

You can't take nail clippers onto the plane, but they give you metal cutlery still on some of them

Well thought out...

Anyone can buy a first class ticket though. It's not like bad guys only travel economy.

Either way stuff like the nail clippers is stupid obviously. A lady friend of mine has a plastic nail file taken off her which was about 4cm

Smaller than even the plastic cutlery they give you.

The fire arms laws in this country have been made by people with no real firearms experience
We need gun laws I totally get that I’m not against them but I’d really like to see them seriously looked by experienced people that can make laws that work and make since
