REVIEW OF THE FIREARMS ACT 1973 (WA)
PROJECT 105 DISCUSSION PAPER

^I have just started looking at this document, I'm sure theres a lot more, but I came to this:

Category C5: An air rifle of any calibre that is self-loading with a magazine capacity of no more than 10 rounds
Category D7: An air rifle of any calibre that is self-loading with a magazine capacity of more than 10 rounds.
Crossman 1077 is 12 shot semi!!!!

A f***ing air rifle to be banned (D=banned in my books) If I am wrong PLEASE correct me.... I may have read the C and D letters incorrectly, maybe theyre really A and B and I'm going stupid in my not so old age....

It seems however lever shotguns (no mag cap specified) remain Cat A...
keep reading.......................

This is very ordinary; the discussion cover (dredges up) the buy back of course;

There was also a gun buyback scheme in operation during 1996–1997, during the course of which ‘643,726 newly prohibited semi-automatic and pump-action rifles and shotguns were purchased by the federal government from their civilian owners at market value’ and ‘[t]ens of thousands of gun owners also voluntarily surrendered additional, non-prohibited firearms without compensation’20(footnote ref)

What is really annoying, is the repetition of the absolute lies!!! It may have been that many longarm BUT THEY WERE NOT ALL semis and pumps.... A proportion, a small proportion?? might have been - the figures were NEVER released, for obvious reasons.... and "purchased from their civilian owners" sounds so easy going and voluntary.....well it was at the threat of prison....

By why would the 'reputable' panel of 4x lawyers as commissioners include such drivel... well they deferred such matters to the much acclaimed expert on firearms in Australia, some say the fraud - ALPERS.... thats what the footnote refers to...

A revolving pellet tray is not self loading, its a revolver. Are there other types of loading system for air rifles that are semi automatic?

co2 BB pellet guns?

Doesn't matter proposal is specifically aimed at the crossman....

Can you guys hunt on public / crown land in WA????

How about this proposal....

Proposal 45:
•that the ‘genuine reason’ requirement in section 11A(1) of the Firearms Act 1973 (WA) be amended to include ‘traditional hunting’;
•where a person has nominated ‘traditional hunting’ as his or her genuine reason, in lieu of a ‘property letter’ he or she ought to be able to provide evidence of:
—his or her membership of a registered or determined native title claim over an area; or
—his or her identity as an Aboriginal person wishing to engage in traditional hunting in accordance with section 23 of the Wildlife Conservation Act 1950 (WA), section 23A of the Conservation and Land Management Act 1984 (WA) and section 104 of the Land Administration Act 1997 (WA); and
•that a person’s status as an Aboriginal person engaging in traditional hunting, a registered native title claimant or determined native title holder be accepted as ‘reasonable excuse’ for the purposes of sections 23(10) and 23(10a) of the Firearms Act 1973 (WA)

So new licence Category of Traditional hunting, if Aboriginal, then you're good to go shooting on crown land........ I wonder if those 1/64th aboriginals will apply :unknown:

Nope. I read it the same way.

Also, the proposals are to reduce the burden and red tape :allegedly: then go on to propose that you have to reconfirm your genuine need every time you renew your license, that farmers have to maintain a register of who is allowed to hunt on their land and that if you use your firearms for your employment (contract shooters, etc) that you are not allowed to use your firearms between contracts.

The proposals and the document itself is all over the place and sounds a little like the ramblings of a two year old

I love when they ask if firearms being used as evidence should be temporarily or permanently deactivated before its allowed into court...

Lets deactivate it. Ok, done. it gets to court, and there's some question over the ballistics evidence. Well, lets fire it to get a comparrison... Oh... Wait...

Seriously... I mean seriously...

Page 148;

New-generation air rifles are capable of using a standard 12- and 16-round circular magazine (when chambered in .177 or .22 pellet projectiles) and can outshoot a Ruger semi-automatic 10/22 model semi-automatic model rifle chambered in .22 long rifle calibre. The Ruger 10/22 rifle is a Category C firearm that is restricted to primary producers and registered professional vermin shooters and can only have a magazine capacity of 10 rounds.

Allowing the licensing of these air rifles contradicts the reasoning for restricting self-loading rimfire rifles similar to the Ruger 10/22. Consequently, shooters can now licence a firearm of equal capabilities to a restricted category rimfire firearm under the classification of Category A without any restriction or conditions associated to the licence.

Image

Obviously the streets are running red with the blood of so many victims, given that shooters can now licence this new technology that supersedes the Ruger.... and of course all farmers have dumped their old tech 22 semis :roll:

Note the use of the word 'shooter' which I would take in the pejorative sense in this context.... it should be licensees. or appropriately licensed individuals, but maybe thats just me, expecting a token of respect and more intelligent language from a board of lawyer/barrister commissioners....

I'm struggling to believe no Westerners have an opinion about 'public' lands proposed to be available to ONLY Aboriginal shooters :huh: No association necessary, can have a title claim or not, just prove you're of Aboriginal blood, and you're good to go.... so if 2 blokes walk into the relevant department, one's white, one's black (or could even be white for that matter) the one who claims aboriginal status can hunt, while whitey cant..... anywhere else that would be classed as racist, certainly of the tables were turned.

Comment on the document, contact your MP.....tell them what you think about their proposed 'ideas'

If there is no outcry, it will slide into the law books....the cat D air rifles bizzo along with all other crap including allowing Aboriginals to hunt on public lands simply due to the colour of their skin.... when whitey cant... simple as that. Is that racist? No, it would only be racist if the law proposal was the other way.

But with 223s, that would take forever :unknown:

Better option, we get Gina Rinehart to stand in the middle and sit by until WA seperates itself. Then while it's floating away, all the shooters can race over to victoria and tassie.
