Have to store firearms at dealer, which are now shut

Post by RedSky7 » 28 Mar 2020, 9:09 pm

Sorry for being ignorant on WA gunlaws
Im moving to WA next week with a temp permit from NSW, it requires me to store at a firearms dealer.. I have to do a mandatory 14 day quarantine and i'm allowed to keep my firearms with me during this, following i must store at a dealers. Where am i supposed to take them? Can i request they stay with me under lock and key in a carry case?(i'm in a safe complex gated apartment) or should i expect to hand them over to the police?
Thank you for any opinions- stay safe.

At a guess the local police will be able to give you a number of the gunshop to make an appointment to drop them in.
Otherwise you will have to leave them at the cop shop.

Cant help you, sorry.

Id guess that the majority of people also cant answer your question either.

Hopefully you can get your answer here, but given the announcement & shutdown has just happened, & by the sounds of it, taken even the dealers by surprise, id guess even they dont know at this point.
Infact, id go so far as to say, that even the WA regulators pulling this stunt havent even thought about it...but i guess they've got a couple of weeks to come up with another hair brained scheme to combat you're predicament & that will save the universe from all the guns that have gained intelligence & going to shoot everyone by themselves.

Good luck with it...& please post back what happens as it happens eh...?..

Its likely we'll all be sitting here going further out of our brains, so a little regular situational update from you will help to break the monotony of the all the porn ill be forced to watch... 8-)

The WA government is leftist. They will grasp any opportunity to whittle away the rights of law abiding firearm owners. This gun shop closure is just their seizing the opportunity created by the Covid-19 crisis to make firearm ownership more onerous and to discourage firearm ownership.
It's a cynical and disgusting dog act by our state government.

I emailed my local guy asking if he was opening this week coming...
“Yeah - why wouldn’t I be”
“Well WA have just closed theirs, QLD followed...”
“bulls**t, I don’t believe you...they can’t.”
“Here, look at this..”.- sent link to thread
I won’t type up his response, but he’s a fiery younger bloke and he was very, very upset. He said he would make enquires and let me know but I think he will get lost now in the tape,
Op - is it possible that you go to firearm shop that you were meant to, take firearm with you, take a photo of yourself and your firearm being on the premises as directed and a photo of the closure notice.
Then - keep firearm safely secured as per vehicular transport rules until such time as you get a written answer from your state wankers, I’d say that given the confusion and lack of thought with this - you could not be held accountable what so ever given the current uncertainty. Just my two cents.

There is a provision in the WA act where you can have your firearms stored at your local police station. But I’d be making that appointment with a LGS. Beatons and Claremont do long term storage. Good luck.

Just goes to show you should remind your friends to get licenced. the more licenced shooters, the more voting power we have.

Where are our firearm friendly politicians - Ian Goodenough et al. Where are your comments on this dog act?

Yeah we need some answers around this. WA police are not waving requirements for hand gun club shooters either.

Means in 6 weeks (last shoot 2 weeks ago) from now I’ve breached my license requirements.

They need to either wave requirement or make possible storage of club hand guns until clubs allowed to re-open.

Obviously first option the better to minimise unnecessary social contact.

Ian is a good guy but I'm still waiting for an invitation.

Chritopher Dawson states that it will be illegal for gun stores to open to prevent person-to-person contact over the counter. Now I have purchased a new firearm over the last month and am wondering if he can still post it to my local firearms dealer in the bush?
Firearms dealers in the bush are upset because they also sell farm products, fencing, tools, dog food, Chemie etc... so now Christopher Dawson has sent an amended legislation saying that it's only the firearm and ammo section that is closed, they are still allowed to remain open to service the farmers other needs. Did I miss something here? Have I miss- read the part about over the counter contact? I'm still lost as to where he got his ideas from.
