remington 7615 still banned in WA? any way around it?

Post by brett » 03 Oct 2021, 1:13 pm

does anyone know whats up with the 7615 pump action? is it still banned and do we know what reason it was banned in WA only? i really want a pump action 300 blackout, so the 223 7615 converted to 300blk is the obvious solution but i think it is banned. other option in the 7600 pump in 308 which is not banned, and then convert that to 300blk but that is a lot more work.
am i missing something?
am i overlooking another option?

Maybe some "military appearance" rubbish?
Depending on why you want 300BLK, what about just loading the .308 down to BLK levels?

As I understand what was said at the time, the restriction has to do with the 7615's ability to take Stanag mags, that is all. Silly, but WA.

What’s so special about 300 blackout. There’s heaps of better calibres.
I’d get a 243. https://www.ozgunsales.com/listing/72673/verney_carron_impact_la_243win_pump.html
People are selling 7615’s for twice that and they’re not that great.

Dunno. There's nothing out there except sand and thistles...

There is no law banning the 7615. Put in a PTA (whatever they call it over there, serviceability certificate or whatever it is). Wait for the rejection letter than take it to court with the help of a lawyer who will probably charge you around $500 an hour. The police may drop the case and grant you the permit because they do not want the case law.

You must be the sacrificial lamb to help other WA shooters obtain the 7615.

WA Firearms Regulations, Regulation 26B, Certain licences, permits and approvals not to be issued, granted or given (page 36) specifically mentions the Remington 7615. So it is banned by Regulation in WA.

Well blow me down there ya go I was unaware. However to pull that apart it states the 7615p model and 223 calibre. So old mate wants the 300BLK so he should be fine. Infact any model that is not the p model should be legal.

Unfortunately the 7615 only comes in a 7615P model, no .300 BLK from factory either. You could have a go with a converted 7615P I suppose but I’d guess you’re going to end up in the SAT with an empty wallet.

Here is a 300BLK for sale. This should be WA legal as the law states only 223 is banned.

Get an Akkar triple barrel. It will fire 3 rounds faster than that.

The 7615 is banned on appearance laws, not because it takes P mags as some have said. I was chatting with a senior firearms licensing person who said the legislation around this may be changed soon, possibly even allowing the 7615. I'll believe it when I see it though.

I can't believe the 7615 is banned on appearance, as it looks the same as the 7600 which is not banned. The 7600 does not take 20 round mags but the 7615 does and this was the reason we were told not to sell 7615's to WA buyers.
