One thing it highlights is gun owners seem to think the authoritys care about their privacy. We have that problem here as well the firearms data base has been breached more than once (that we know of) and a bin containing firearm owners private details was left at a disused police station it wasnt until a crims house was raided that anyone was aware that people other than the police had access to this private information. Kind of smells a bit like putting presure on us from all different angles.

Actually parts of Registry, in one instance a woman working there was found to be living with a bike club member, nothing could be proven but at the same time a crim was picked up in Geelong with a "shopping list" of owners and dealers listing what guns they owned. Fortunately for us our Govt here in Vic (in perhaps the only issue they have right re: firearms) refuse to give any info to the media regarding firearm ownership density by locality such as WA do.

Yeah well you have civilians working in a Firearms Registry how bloody stupid is that

Civilians are no more likely to engage in criminal activity than police, or any other occupation for that matter.

Prosecution and conviction rates are lower for police officers but I suspect that's more to do with their reluctance to investigate or take action against each other.
