Any WA shooters had their Colt M2012 confiscated?

Post by nords » 08 Oct 2014, 8:21 am

Seems this has been going for 6 or 7 weeks now and a few dozen guys have lost theirs :(

Anyone in WA here with an "inspection" coming up who's got one.

Why would they have?

It's just a bolt action?

Yep, it's been caught in the 'military looking' net.

If they have actually been taken and had been approved in the first place. I hope the people that could afford them can also afford to take wapol to SAT

Here in town theres one, and we are currently all taking a turn at gun and safe inspections ( mines tommorow ) So we are all waiting to see how this guy goes, if / when I hear anything i'll let y'all know.

This is just what I've read elsewhere, but it sounds like they'll have a case.

AFAIK nothing has changed in the firearms act or other WA pol in the time that some of the rifle permits were granted to now when they're being seized.

Just between then and now someone's taken a disliking to them.

Fingers crossed for those affected.

If this is true, then its really getting out of hand, you guys need to march on parliament or do something....the thin edge of the wedge went though firearm owners collective some time ago, the thick edge will follow shortly.

Is this reclassification, or is it resembling military or military issued (has the model been issued somewhere? Lower farkenupistan or somewhere like that??

Watching with interest as it is on the shopping list  and this is the first i have herd about this.. Has anyone spoken or emailed Frontier Arms about this ? There is no news here in New South Wales about M2012 ban ? Is the SSAA aware of it ? or any dealers out there that can shed some light on the subject perhaps ??

I've heard on the grapevine that these were all sold by one shop and its got something to do with the servicibility certificates they issued but what it is, is not clear.

There are currently no restrictions in the WA Act or Regs on Cat B bolt actions resembling Military only Cat D self loaders so that should not be an issue.

Whether this means that down the track the owners will get them back, who knows but its an allowable firearm so its moreso a paperwork issue.

But it may eventually depend on taking legal action and that would be the job of SSAA.

Ok may be a storm in a tea cup or a dealer blunder it seems but keep us posted over here in the nanny state.

I am not sure if the do mate. WAPOL has a habit of making policy that no one ever contests, which is why 338 Laps were on the cant license list for age's but after a court case they are now ok to license if you meet the requirements. As for pistol grips on rifles, well I honestly think they can help with accuracy, I know I love them for them reason, and you have to admit all guns that advance with the times will share some similarities. Just my 2c worth.. And I think a good lawyer will make the point well.

Well we shouldnt have too, but like alot of shooters, we do what we can with what we have mate. WA in alot of respects is the worst state for firearm control... It's also my state. On the bright side Smugglers are making a fortune bringing in toys under the radar

No choice really... Other than leave the country.

We have a few political skirmishes over this stuff but we just don't have the weight behind us like the players in the US.
