It wouldn't take long before you missed it, without the royalty money from the mining sector the rest of the country would soon fall apart.

Only 1 year licences? Jeez. QLD has 10 years the same as passports.

How can they legally decline because of the virus? What does the WA firearms act/regulations say is a valid reason to decline a licence? Does it have a provision that the commissioner can decline for any reason? We all joke about socialists and dictatorships etc but still at the minute the WA government and the police have to follow the law. If someone is declined a licence for the reason being :"virus" than they should seek legal advise. Just because they approve a licence does not mean you can walk into the dealer and purchase.

Yeah if you out in an application before the lockdown/state of emergency, it won't be processed or accepted or granted or whatever till after the state of emergency level is reduced

If someone has used various ranges / or even SSAA membership as a reason for the gun application - then I doubt it will proceed until there’s clarification around businesses reopening.

But is that legal? Does the act mention ranges must be open for trading? Or does it mention the commissioner can decline for any purpose? What does the act mention about rejection of licences? What matters is the law. If they are rejecting licences for unlawful purposes than they are breaking the law and lawyers would get hard over this stuff.

Well just had a quick read of the act and the commissioner can exercise discretion to reject permits and licences if he feels "it is not desirable in the interests of public safety".

And have a look at this one. The governor may steal all dealers firearms.

"Governor may order delivery of firearms by dealers and manufacturers in cases of emergency
(1) Where the Governor is of opinion that any emergency has arisen, or is likely to arise, he may by proclamation declare that all dealers and manufacturers and repairers of firearms in the State, or in any specified portion of the State, having firearms or ammunition in their possession — (a) shall render the same innocuous by a method to be specified in the declaration; (b) shall deliver the same, or any parts or kinds of the same specified in the declaration, within a time and at a place so specified, to the Commissioner or any specified member of the Police Force, for the purpose of safe keeping."

Ours doesn't work like that, if you are using it at the range then you need a club letter and then you can only use it at shooting ranges, competitions etc.
To be able to use a rifle to hunt with then you need a property letter giving you permission to shoot on their land, then you can jump through the hoops with the application.
