Black Powder Availability

Post by perentie » 04 Apr 2022, 9:42 am

I am nearly out of Swiss BP. I can get Wano here in Qld but not Swiss.
I bought a few kilos from Graeme Forbes last year and was going to collect it from him at Milmerran but all that was cancelled because of Covid.
As I am driving down to NSW later this year does anyone know of a Dealer there that stocks it? I am after Swiss FF.

Is Swiss that much better than Wano ?

I haven't been able to but BP in SA for years. Apparently you need to visit a club to find it here.

G'day on_one_wheel,
Swiss is more energetic leading to less volume for the same velocity, it is also more consistent in its burn rate due to better sieving in manufacture. Wano can be improved by owners sieving out the fines, which I use for flintlock flash powder. I am fortunate to have fine sieves from a closed down Metallurgy Lab though. As for Swiss, I haven't seen any in Vic for some time now, only Wano. You could try calling Roger Mowbray at Northern Shooters Supply, he is a BP specialist and took on most of Forbes stuff when he retired. If anyone knows what is going on with Swiss, he would, Cheers.

SSAA Para branch in S.A was the importer for Swiss. I don't know what the availability is at the moment though.

Thanks all. I better start working up a load with Wano anyway just in case.

No swiss in NSW, well, not that I've seen for a long time.
Wano importer does it for s**ts and giggles I'm pretty sure, its part of their business but not really - thankfully they enjoy supporting the sport. Offered a few times for them to come out one day and see their product in action.

Las time I was there they explained the difficulties in getting a ship full of explosives to Australia and getting it from the magazine in Brisbane to their magazine in NSW. They mentioned something about they used to split shipping with Thales/ADI on some ship from Europe but that fell through so everything went up in price.
