I might need some number 10 caps What’s the deal. Are they hard to source ? Like primers ?

I haven't bought them for years but I just checked and Rebels don't have any so perhaps they are scarce now.

There’s info on the web about how to make your own. But I would not know how to source the explosive component to make the cap. And I can’t see myself enjoying making them. Not being able to buy stuff is getting bloody ridiculous. What the he’ll is wrong with the people who normally make things

Is the firearm something you can adapt to use 209's perhaps?

I saw something about people useing those 209 primers instead but I think it’s for bigger loads than the little 36 cal revolver

What brand #10's have you been using? Remington #11 will fit the same as Rem #10, but CCI are different again.

Not interested in selling my powder. I don’t really have enough to share. I’ll end up making some home made caps if I have to

There’s bound to be another forum member that can help me out sooner or later. I saw that u can make them from toy caps ( rolls red ). Put three caps inside a home made metal cap. Very tedious.

Cap sizes vary between makers quite a lot, unless you know what you need then just buy a tin of CCI #11 from Cleavers and try them. Maybe they'll work or maybe not but at least you will know to get a smaller cap like CCI #10. Remington #10 are actually larger than CCI #11 by the way, Common cap sizes (in inches)
CCI #10 0.160 ID x 0.160 L
CCI #11 0.166 ID x 0.167 L
Rem #10 0.167 ID x 0.168 L
Rem #11 0.166 ID x 0.145 L
RWS 1075 0.165 ID x 0.154 L

Thanks no 1. I’ll probably wait until the guns arrive and I’ll check the likely hood of certain caps fitting reliably. Then I’ll establish how I’m goi to solve the cap availability issue

I dont use solvent as plain water is fine. Sometimes use a 10% mix of soluble oil in my target rifles.
Just oil the bore after cleaning and wipe it out before shooting again.

Plain HOT water and a brush, it opens up the pours, removes all the burnt powder and the residual heat helps it to dry quickly after a clean dry patch.

I don't use any petrol chemical solvents or oils as they ruin BP and can cause a misfire or reduced burning efficiency for the first few shots until its gone.
I only use natural oils and fats.

Yes, yanks do it.

Also heard some where a unfired 22lr case can work. Would need to be a short I guess.

You will find the substances you need to make your own priming compound very difficult to obtain.

So I just had a silly thought. If primers powder and percussion caps are not readily available, why is it that there is no shortage of toy caps ? This question is as hilarious as it is ridiculous…. Welcome to my clown show

Honestly NFI. But yanks are making them with cap gun caps. IIRC they use the old paper type tho.

Yep. I saw the old paper cap video. It used three caps inside one home made metal cup. It would be mad if those little red caps work. I tried to buy old paper cap rolls last night from my local toy store but they only had the red plastic disc things. Time to start experimenting. I only need a trial to get me started Then I’ll just put it all on hold for a while untill commercially made percussion caps are back on the scene

I very much doubt a 22lr case would work. Maybe on a musket cap nipple but not on a size 10 nipple.
