Black powder shooting dying out

Black powder rifles and pistols, reloading black powder, and other information. The smoky stuff.

Black powder shooting dying out

Post by veep » 02 Dec 2013, 11:27 am

Hi guys,

Not sure what everyone else thinks of this, it's just my observation on basically all shooting websites I read, but black powder shooting seems to be dying out?

I only ever seem to see the occasional black power forum post pop up, or people giving it a go then maybe the interest in it fades away and so on.

I don't know if anyone works at a gun store and can give feedback on powder sales or something like that, but I'd be interested to see if/what the trend is on black powder shooting and if it is declining.

What do you think?

There are a few black powder enthusiasts here.

No where near the amount of modern smokeless rifle powder shooters obviously, but I dunno if I'd say it's black powder shooting is dying out...

I shoot a CVA .54 Cal front stuffer and a 40-65 Pedersoli Sharps falling block.
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

When you say 'old' are they remakes of the pistol? or they using genuine ones?

Shooting some originals would be very cool...

They only started making these in 1970 or something. Not actually as old as the name would suggest...

Still a cool pistol, but not really a 'classic'.

If you look closely at the pic, you'll see the are branded "Old Army" These aren't originals.
