EF88 commercial variant could bump up civilian familiarity

"In the short term, it appears the Australian Defence Force will continue to use the EF88 in all its various forms," according to Mr Catchpole, a Queensland Police Minister’s Firearms Advisory Committee member.

"That being the case, Australia has a long tradition of making versions of its service rifle available for licensed and regulated civilian use.

"The thinking being that it was in the national interest to have a pool of citizens with basic skill-at-arms with the in-service system.

I don't know how likely this would be.
My stance on gun control depends on firearm, caliber, wind, and obstacles.

I see no value in this at all.
How many '88's do we have here, considering how small our entire defence force is? Maybe 100,000? If there were a war where we had to arm the population, we would be handing out M16's and M4's dumped here in the truckload by our allies, just as we've seen happen everywhere else. Nobody is going to start bringing in truckloads of F88's.

I'd enjoy owning a straight-pull flat-top F88 just for giggles if it were made available for $2000 max, I certainly wouldn't spend more than that for one. But I would expect that if one were made available it would be even more expensive than that.

Most of our population are soft c*cks these days anyway. I think most would surrender without a shot fired, such is the way our national identity has been worn down by leftist woke politics over the years. The military has been underfunded for generations as Australia’s remoteness was its best defence in times past. Still is to a certain degree . Promotion based on gender instead of abilities is a common thing in the military these days apparently, which erodes confidence in the military by its members. As I’m sure a lot of you are aware, in times past the government handed out 303’s and encouraged shooting clubs. I can’t see that happening in this modern woke run Australia. Bob Katter would back that idea I reckon, but nobody listens to politicians like him……at least not the majority of Australians who live in the cities

Lithgow are gay! I refuse to buy a Lithgow(303 and slr excluded) because they wont sell the styer to the public. If you have a cat D they still wont sell to you. They wont even sell to the civilians in the USA to keep the Australian government happy. So F them! All they care about is their government contract.

I don't see the relevance to Lithgow, Americans already buy semi-auto Steyr AUG's.

They want the EF88. Lithgow could make some good money importing it. Even in Aus they won't sell to cat D holders.

I didn't realise the differences between the Steyr and Lithgow builds were that significant. I still consider it a pointless weapon that in time of actual war would quickly be dumped and replaced with standard NATO M16's and M4's. If we suddenly needed to arm a million Australian troops I doubt we'd be doing it with Steyrs. Unless we do actually have a stockpile of a million F88's in storage somewhere?

I think if we had another World War type of conscription we could probably find them.

110 years ago we only had a population of five million and almost 10% volunteered for WW1 service. 85 years ago we again had 10% of the population serving. So I guess, in theory, we could see almost three million troops in another war of that scale if 10% of the population volunteered or were conscripted.
