How to stamp out the illegal firearms trade

Post by Wapiti » 06 Sep 2026, 8:27 am

I was just watching Andrew Clennell on News24 (SKY) just now and he was grilling Angus Taylor about the LNP jumping on One Nation's 75% drop on the tobacco excise to "stop" the illicit tobacco trade.
Taylor said he was one-upping ON's 75% by making theirs better, at 80%. Why he was asked?
Because 80% is better because it's more.
Funny how the "Big Tobacco" is shovelling donations to the federal Nationals. Co-incidence?

His logic was that to make things more expensive, drives the black market.
He then said, making tobacco completely illegal would make an even worse black market, with the criminal gangs and firebombing etc just getting worse.
And also, young people will take up illegal smoking because it would be illegal.
Making things illegal is a dumb-arse thing to do basically.

Except when it comes to firearms? same same.

Therefore, using the logic of these clowns, who basically have NFI what they are saying, and how hypocritical they are, making firearms completely legal again and getting rid of government intervention, which as HE SAYS, is incompetent meddling by incompetent public servants, will stop the illegal trade.

And it's the illegal trade, between criminals that are participating in illegal activities, that he says everyday contributing Australians must suffer because of stupid pointless decisions by politicians who basically live in a mummy's boy world.

So I propose that firearms be available to all law-abiding citizens if this country, without restriction, encouraged to be used to protect the real people against the criminals who would hurt them, and treat us all with the respect politicians keep telling us that they hold us all in when they want out votes.
Problem solved.
Just how this expert says will solve the illegal tobacco trade, and the black market, and street violence. Just like that!

A starting point would be to strongly enforce the existing laws on having an unlicensed firearm, having an illegal firearm and using said firearm(s) in crime. Sadly weak judges/magistrates etc continually fail in this area. Crims will just keep on keeping on.

My position is dont bother worrying about it, just keep the existing laws and where they fail accept deaths from armed crime and collateral damage.

Guns kill less a year than grog does a month.

Then we have the other big killer cars which have been made able to beat the speed limit for almost 75 years, for no good reason.

These biggest elephants in the room are squeezed past by politicians so they can put the focus on guns, which btw kill less people a year than water accidents.

My reply to them literally is fk off I dont care, not while we accept cars on the road that can go 180kmhr in the wrong persons hands,

I'm not sure if what I put up here is still current or not,,,,,,,,,,,, :unknown:

But there was a State/County (or whatever it was called) in USA whereby it was a pre requisite to live there, that everyone of age had to be a licensed firearm owner, and I think by memory every household had to possess a minimum of one firearm.

Coupled with their legal system where a citizen has the right of home and self protection,, the combination seemed to work exceptionally well.

The crime rate was exceptionally lower than elsewhere.
I do not fear death itself... Only its inopportune timing!

There you go mate, you just proved my point of view and my suggestion to solve all this BS.

Problem is, firearms in the hands or people who will not be disrespected, lied to and sent into the cesspit and eternal pain of this pustule Albanese's socialist plan is just NOT ON. We might feel like we can resist this evil jelly blancmange.
Disarm the people by any means!
