Why would a corrections facility have their own range WITH full auto weapons anyway...surely, anything that required that amount of force would be reserved for top echelon police squads.?

Been wondering about that myself. They seem to like an edge.

The Americans keep going on about their right to have guns. In reality it can be a very different story. Of course it varies by state but there are a lot of instances where they have had them removed. They have gun free zones. When Hurricane Katrina happened they were not allowed to carry or buy guns. There are heaps of instances the general 2nd amendment person like to overlook all those instances.

sungazer. The truth is that the 2nd amendment to the US Constitution guarantees the Right to Keep and Bare Arms. Note the carefully selected word, 'Arms'.
Not this type or that type of "firearm", but ARMS.
And, in case you are wondering, the Founding Fathers foresaw a possible need whereby (we, the) People had the necessary means to repel a repressive Government.
Further, the elected officials who are supposed to work as employees of those who put them in office, frequently (too frequently) pass into Law (?) endless curtailments on the Constitutional Right, more often than not by the use of weasel words/poly-speak.
In those cases, each and every one of them has broken their pledge to uphold that Constitution, in its entirety, not just the pieces they like, for which THEY should be Recalled or Impeached!
DemocRATS, no doubt.

The stealing of guns in new orleans was ruled unconstitutional. Granted it was after the fact but still. They were within their rights to not comply and defend their property from unlawful searches and seizes

Thats why the FBI burnt down the waco compound to hide the evidence that the ATF shot first at the davidians. The davidians were well within their rights to kill the ATF agents in self defence because the ATF literally drove onto their private land and started shooting at them.

There has been so many cases in America of cops getting the wrong address and kicking down the wrong door to issue a warrent and the people inside kill the cops in self defence and they get let off because they have the right to self defence in their home,EVEN FROM THE GOVERNMENT.

If you killed a cop in Australia in self defence it would be the end of your life.

Well they kind of are mate. We have no freedom of speech in Australia. We don't even have the right to defend our property from an intruder. Australians are subjects not citizens with zero rights. The USA is the only country in the world that the citizens have a written contract wth the government that dictates how the citizens will allow the government to govern. And the 2nd amendment is their get out of jail free card if the government breaks the contract.

See the cops in the uk who went to old mates house about his online comments and they said “what you posted was not illegal but we want to check your thinking as a non crime hate incident”.

Hmm is that why people like Chelsea manning, Julian Assange, Snowden etc came out with the stories that basically said

The us government was wiretapping their own citizens inside the country without any court order

Stuff like rendition, where people which included American citizens could basically be kidnapped from the middle of the street, chucked on a plane and moved to a 3rd country and held against their will and torchered without any court of law giving permission.

You yourself have picked up a few examples. But there are plenty of cases where normal citizens have become the centre of criminal investigations by the IRA, DEA etc.

Or as discussed above, where many states just "rewrite the constitution" by passing laws that actually take these rights away.

Yes the constitution gives rights but it seems most of them are easily taken away in complete sight by elected lawmakers, or by deception by the government agencies including CIA/FBI/Homeland etc.

In Australia, the premise is there aren't any rights. But you get a lot of things to keep you happy, like universal and free healthcare, free school education for kids, reasonably good standard of living and reasonable stable environment with very high wages, and ofcourse a bit of social security...aka dole/pension. And finally jobs lots and lots of government jobs
