win for a local gun dealer

l know Rod very well
hes a top bloke who has stuck to his guns and had a good outcome because he did
the biggest problem with these cases is that everyday normal people do not have the money to go against these types of charges
Rod and his family have suffered with a huge loss of revenue and you can see it has aged them
l'm glad its over for them and they are now able to get back to whatever normal is now with this CCP virus

nice to see someone have a win for a change. it seems like rules apply to firearm owners and dealers , but weapons licensing can do as they please and just aren't accountable when they make a stuff up and cost a law abiding citizen time and money

Someone of high ranking - HAS to lose their job. Without accountability there is and will be no change. This stuff scratches my eyes like nothing else. I hate the incompetence / no responsibility aspect of govt - I hope the guy got decent compensation.

There’s a similar situation down here in Tas right now. A local firearms shop has been accused of dodgy paperwork but it appears on face value - it’s govt department related...meanwhile - a senior employee has been sacked as a result...

Read the article and saw no mention of costs being awarded.
Also no judgement required so no precedent to protect another dealer from the same BS.
I reckon whoever within The Registry generated the situation and also those who allowed it to drag on are safe, nobody in Vic Govt ever gets sacked, the dole office queue is for plebs, not folks with Arts Degrees.

Sounds about bloody right. This is why NSW is going entirely digital shortly. The paper system is too prone to errors, inaccuracy and discrepancy for this sort of mass recording.

I've personally seen cops check my brothers safe and enquire as to the location of three firearms absent. They'd been sold in the previous 2 years, and he'd since gotten another one or two rifles to replace them... which weren't on the official tally.

Coppers said "Yeah that's about right mate, don't sweat, that's a registry problem," apparently that sort of thing is common.

Hope old mate lodges a claim to get his estimated 9 mil back. Thats just insanity.

yep there were no costs awarded
it has been treated like it was just another day in the office by the police involved
what was originally said about Rod, why he was charged and had his dealers license taken away was trumped up
Rod and his family have been through hell with this
l dont know anyone who would have gone through what they did, most would have walked away
ordinary people do not have the seemingly endless resources the police have behind them to keep a trumped up charge like this going for as long as it was
this is where the law needs to be changed to make the playing field a bit fairer, this case was dragged out for way to long with nobody accountable
