Gun safe stolen - Belmore, NSW

Post by lole » 28 Mar 2014, 10:16 am

A gun safe containing a rifle, scope and ammunition was stolen from a house in Kingsgrove Rd, along with cash, jewellery and a passport, at about 11.30am on Wednesday. Police said the residents, a couple, were out at the time and the husband returned to find the back door open and the house ransacked. The stainless steel gun safe, which was bolted to a brick wall, had been ripped off and taken. The stolen firearm is a Tikka T3 left-hand .243 calibre Winchester bolt-action rifle with 45 rounds.

Just an FYI for anyone in the area.

Or anyone thinking about a heavier safe ;)

At least they seem to recover rifles a lot of the time they're taken.

According to the bits of news I come across anyway... In a few thefts over the past year or so I think they recovered quite a few.

After that round in Tassie I think they caught a few of the buggers?

Hmm, I dunno about that.

They get a few back sure. I don't know about "a lot" though.

Could be wrong, happy to be corrected...

Even a heavy safe should be bolted in my personal opinion, what I always recommend is get 2 cheapo gun safes and bolt those to the concrete on each side to increase the time it takes to get to the sides of the safe  which is what I have done.

I have my 150kg safe bolted in the middle and 2 cheapo safes bolted in either side of it to act as side reinforcement and make it harder to get to the back and to also waste their time and confuse the dumber ones

"omg 3 safes! jackpot! um which one first  well the middle one I would guess holds the bounty but to get any real leverage on it we have to nail one of the side ones, screw this!"

You need one of these, it may not look like much but it is a TL-30 class safe.

2,460 lbs, that's 1,116kg for you metric minded folks.

You're not walking off with this fat bastard.

I like your sense of safety there mate.

I can see the headlines "Police are looking for men with chronic backache, and terminal hernia's."

And in case of a nuclear attach you'll be OK... Until the air runs out.

You mean it's 1,116kg, or 2,460 lbs for people still using the ridiculous Imperial system :P

This level of stuff isn't really what you'd call 'common' here.

You can buy one new obviously but it costs a fortune. Otherwise they come up occasionally if a business goes bust and has a one to get rid off.

Are they well priced out your way for average Joe?

Preaching to the choir.

As a result of my work and travel, I am all for;

1. Going to the metric system
2. Getting rid of Daylight Savings Time
3. Moving to Day/Month/Year date format, instead of Month/Day/Year. I mean really, who the %$# thought up that little gem?

They are not too common around here either. You nailed it though, I got this from a pharmaceutical that relocated (through a buddy of mine). All I had to pay was for a specialized service to pickup\deliver and to change out the lock. I'm only about $1,500 USD into it, new these things are $8000 + for this size.

Makes me feel good when I'm away. My Dad paid $1000 for his safe and I feel I could break into it with a crowbar. This one is a whole other level.

I have dealt with people in the US for many years and the mm/d/year really s**ts me at times.

Imperial? Well I grew up with it and it isn't so bad.

Daylight savings? It should be all year around.

Yeah sounds right.

I think I've seen similar ones new here for about $6,500?

Yeah, a typical gun "safe" can't compare to a traditional valuables safe. They're what I'd describe as a good lock box only really... More of a strong school locker...

I don't think you guys have any storage requirements in the states, right? We do here, but it's only 3mm steel. Or "Hard wood".

Not exactly Fort Knox.
