Seizure of firearms at a Mount Isa address

" Police have charged a man and a woman with weapons offences following an incident at a Parkside residence on Monday, March 15.

Around 4pm police attended the address following reports of a disturbance.

During the course of their investigations, police located and seized four firearms and a significant quantity of ammunition.

A 35-year-old Parkside man was charged with unlawful possession of explosives and unlawful possession of a weapon. He is due to appear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on April 14.

A 38-year-old Parkside woman was charged with two counts of fail to securely store weapons. She is due to appear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on April 7.

Officer in Charge of the Mount Isa District Tactical Crime Squad, Sergeant Joel Bryant said firearm ownership and storage requires strict compliance, to ensure community safety.

“Anyone who has a firearm must be licenced and must store those weapons in an approved and secure weapons storage facilities under the Weapons Act 1990. Police will not hesitate in taking enforcement action against those who do not adhere to their responsibilities and obligations under the act,” Sergeant Bryant said.
