Wow! Well its one way of having a bet each way. He has been found not guilty of murder Russell Hill but GUILTY of murder of Carrol Clay.

Its a really odd verdict, guilty of murder for Carrol Clay but not Hill. The murder of clay seemed the weakest case out of the 2, manslaughter maybe, but murder? The police case even seemed to suggest it was an accident, I am sure they said he killed her as she was a witness to Hill's murder, although the jury now believes he didn't murder Hill.

The way this case has been run, will almost guarantee it goes straight to appeal.

Everybody is entitled to an appeal if the right grounds are met. It is apart of our legal process. Lawyers are just doing their job. The law is very complex.

Well Alexjones. No question on the right to appeal, BUT lawers are doing their jobs, albeit at a very expensive cost, to us all in some cases. I have had quite a few dealings with the legal fraternity, most were ok to deal with, but they really couldn't justify their fees, no matter what they broke the fees down to. e.g on one matter I was sent two documents via the post. On the invoice it said
"Postage: $45" (the postage in total was $5.50 in stamps.) The law may complex (and they made it that way over time) but they are still rip off merchants in the fee department imo.

Agree, some of their charges are utterly outrageous.

I won a court case against the police and It cost me a third of a new ford ranger wildtrack in legal fees over 12 months. I don't know enough about the law to of won the case by myself so I just bent over and took the weird charges from them. Lawyers are good at shaking people down. I got the result I wanted so you can't put a price on vindication.

IIRC I paid almost twice that.

Worth the money. The lawyer won't be making anywhere near as much as you think they are, after they pay rent (or chamber fees, for barristers), staff, insurance - let alone the periods where there is no work... and often the lawyer takes on the professional and reputational risk of losing a matter (which may mean no income, despite all the stress and work, for conditional costs agreements).

Some lawyers are sharks but the vast majority are extremely good people. You won your case.. how many people think they can go it alone and end up with an adverse decision and no hope of a licence ever again..
