given this is a direct stab at me I will speak up Rich, I have walked streets armed with literally nothing that I can guarantee you wouldn't even visit with a security escort, I don't need anything but my own stomach to feel safe. But you and OB both act as if I, like you all, am speaking from some self oriented point of view, I am not. So mate keep ya nonsense to yourself.

and you know nothing of me either mate . i've walked some scary streets myself , and known some scary people when i was younger . the main reasoning for more access to firearms in this topic is security
i'm just not seeing the common sense in the argument for giving more access to firearms when some people ,young and old, can't be relied upon to operate a car properly . in a perfect world , where everyone does the right thing , there wouldn't be a issue with people carrying . but there are all sorts of halfwits in our society, and overseas as well , who shouldn't have access cause they can't be trusted . the more access to firearms for the public doesn't wash with me i'm afraid. i can acquire all the firearms i could possibly need for any hunting scenario already

Mate you got called out, you were making up facts. And now like a 2 year Trump trying to shift the blame on everything and everyone in the hope people forgot.
You said in Australia there is more home invasions which result in rapes than house fires.
You are a donkertottle.

Oldbloke wrote:Communism_Is_Cancer wrote:Makes me laugh how Australians all buy fire insurance for their homes yet they are drastically more likely to be raped, murdered, assaulted, home invaded than have their home burn down.
They value their property over the lives of themselves and their loved ones by not allowing concealed carry as a form of life insurance.
So, if your not insured and get unlucky, your sleeping on the foot path. There goes 30 years of your working life.
Oldbloke wrote:ZaineB wrote:or you get raped and contract HIV and there goes your entire life...... statistically more likely.
So just for clarity, he was referring to house fires. The CFA says there are about 4500 house fires every year in NSW. I have serious doubts that even 450 die of HIV as a result of rape in NSW a year, let alone 4500
Some may think I'm being argumentive. But I get a bit pissed when people think they can make any wild claim to win an argument and get away with it. Debates can only be won with facts, not disinformation/bull s**t. If you cock up just admit it and move on. If you try and continue argue to justify your mistake you just look like a complete idiot. Or peraps someone with "issues".

What was the original point? In all the excitement following my original post, I have forgotten what the point was

So far from statistics I have seen in the past, people that carry firearms in the USA have a great track record. As I mentioned when someone looked at the 1.5 million people with a license to carry in my state, the crime rate was 0.0%.
I'd be more worried about criminals than regular people minding their own business living a clean and ordinary life who happen to own a gun or guns. In other words your concern seems to be misplaced.
The thing with guns is that it's a choice. Here in the USA if you don't want one, don't own one.
These western countries are turning into these bureaucratic authoritarian regimes with some dummy in a government post deciding you can't do this or that or this or that and it takes choice and freedom away from people and it seems to be making people less responsible and capable for their own lives.
