I feel mchugh's point was that the media story showed the inside of David's shop, VicArms which has been closed for yonks and maybe they could be a bit more current. Lazy journalism?

Lazy alright and I'm betting they'd get shown the door these days.

$200,000,000 to create a national firearms register.
What a flipping joke, I'd bet a computer savvy 14 year old kid could do it for a few grand.

Imagine if we could have a national car registration. Owning a vehicle in WA but residing Victoria makes the WAPOL head explode.

Still $200M if it can save just one cop. I mean Victoria blew $65B to save one grandma. $200M is chicken feed.

Surely each state could just set up a "hot line" for interstate cops can call.

I thought firearms owners were added a national criminal database for ease of identification as a firearms owner (insert red flashing light and alarm noises) whenever police deal with us ?

In Vic at least, i understand that if they punch in your car rego when following a "red flag" pops up re firearms. Same when your death is registered. Then the gears start turning.
