Licensing & Registration Required For Antique Firearms

Post by Keith » 25 Jan 2024, 4:14 pm

As of January 18, 2024, the Tasmanian Police Commissioner Donna Adams has revoked the exemption allowing pre-1901 muzzleloading and other antique firearms to be held without a licence or associated rigamarole.

Effectively immediately, these have been declared to be “firearms” and are now required to be licensed, registered, and locked in a gun safe.

THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS AND THERE IS NO “BUYBACK” OR
COMPENSATION BEING OFFERED.

This could spread to the rest of Australia, & this is serious stuff ! Is anything being done to crush this legislation?

Perhaps people have been actually firing their exempt firearms and screwed it up for everybody else?
In Victoria if I carve an SMLE out of a pine board and paint it to look "realistic" it's classed as a firearm, requires genuine reason and has to be locked up just like an actual firearm.

1996 = We just want your self loading long guns that's it nothing more.

2024 = We just want your black powder muzzle loaders that's it nothing more.

Anyone that supports any form of gun control supports this measure.

Yes, this was not well canvassed by the Fuzz Bint-in-charge and both Labour & Liberal have promised to overturn the decision (can you really believe either?) if the won the election. Now we wait and see who lied the most, or whether they really will maintain what was.

Such is the slippery slope of gun control.
As mentioned, They've probably been used in crime

In SA many toy guns that do not fall under the definition of "firearm" (a device: designed to fire bullets, shot or other projectiles by means of burning propellant, compressed air or other gases) have been deemed firearms, as too have deactivated, replica and antique firearms.

I'll post this picture before it's considered a firearm.
