I HATE all gun laws with the fury of 1000 suns but there is nothing new here.

Category A firearms are the only category that do not require a genuine reason be provided when applying for a PTA.

Seeing as old mate has put down he wants a 300 win mag(cat B) for recreational purposes they are requesting information on the property.

He should of put down he wanted it for sports and target shooting and they would of approved it because there are ranges that shoot 300 win mag.

Cat A and B firearms can be used at ranges AND recreationally on private land regardless how they were originally registered. IE for sports or recreation.

Only 50BMG is banned in QLD (for 99.99% of people). Until they reject the application he has no legal recourse to appeal. Just play the game.

Does a "sport and target" genuine reason allow you take it hunting?

Yes.

So in QLD when you apply for a licence you have to prove genuine reason for sports use(join a club) OR recreation(private land use).

When you prove one and your licensed is approved you get given the condition code to use BOTH.

Then each firearm you apply for is the same. Prove genuine reason for one(excluding cat A) and you can use it for both.

When you apply for a PTA(excluding cat A) you get a list to tick. Sports, recreation or other. 99% of the time it is rubber stamped but for big calibres they may ask what range you shoot it at or what property you shoot at.

Applying for a PTA to shoot a 300 win mag on a 5 acre rural block is hard to justify.(to the police, not me I am all for it)

I just received an email from SU asking for people who are getting erroneous emails from QWLB to contact nominated individuals about their experiences and they are formulating a meeting and a response from the relevant minister. Basically about WL making up hurdles and goalposts outside of the regs.

Unfortunately, I don't reckon many shooters are members of SU and are familiar with the work they do for us. So there will be many 1000's of shooters here that will just sit and grumble and not do anything until it's too late. As we see from the west.
"She'll be right, mate"

SSAA is very disappointing, more of a club, but SU very much deserves your membership.

It is worth noting that SSAA membership is now $115 a year.
Shooters Union is $48.
Both are genuine reasons for category A, B, and H.
I had no idea of this until I joined yesterday.

We should all be joining the Shooters Union , if they are going to fight the hardest for us.
It’s a no brainer.

Is there an NSW option?
If there is, it's only going to be a lack of membership that dictates what can be achieved.
If all shooters don't join, I hope they all stay quiet and obedient when their time comes to join the golf club.

Yep, I've been a member of both for a looooong time,,,,,, and strongly urge all those that are neither to join up ASAP.
