For historical context that means nothing but I will mention, only 13% of Germans were members of a particular party by the end of 1945.

I'd be surprised if the ALP, LNP or Greens have a membership of 1% of our population.
13% is a LOT. I'd bet majority (perhaps 10%) joined for reasons of survival.
