LOL I saw a video of an american guy hating the world because he paid $60 for some Hornady poly Tip 45/70 ammo ( loaded 2 boxes ) and here I see it's about $60 - $70 per box

In the promised land of Oz, market forces only know 1 direction and it aint downward.... example crude oil prices, every night on the nightly news where hear the report of the NASDAQ, crude oil barrel price, along with the days temperature which apart from the fact that neither mean jack ****** to us..... each and every rise in crude oil global price translates directly to an instantaneous rise in the price at the pump.... of course these are market fluctuations but when the price goes down.... we NEVER see that decrease do we??!!

The price of lead and copper went skyward (just as many other commodities, Iron etc) a fe years ago and of course ammo prices went up with the 'excuse' being the global prices of raw materials....
Copper: Early 2011 it was trading globally at or over US$4.50/lb, is presently trading at $3.088/lb...
Lead: Early 2011 over US$1.30 today: $0.96/lb

Have we seen easing in ammo prices? yeahwhatever....

Only chance I can see of prices dropping significantly is if importing became easier. If we could parallel import stuff ourselves prices could plummet.

Less paperwork on our side would be one thing to achieve this.

The more challenging thing though would be the US removing its ITAR restrictions. I don't see that happening any time soon.

As a general rule, everything here is nearly two or three times the price of what I've seen quoted on US websites and other sources there.

That goes for firearms and ammo.

e.g. From another thread here comparing prices wrenchman (in the US) tells us a standard Ruger out his was is $600 US. They're $1,050 AUS here.

Very few people offer reloads for sale here. It's mostly either factory or DIY reloading if you want it.

must be difficult to afford this hobby over there

I wouldnt say stupid necessarily,; when you're used to paying under a dollar a litre or gallon, its a shock to be paying much .... much more... especially when our soldiers are laying their lives down to protect 'our' global crude oil interests... sorry I meant bringing democracy to those nations in need...

I was shaking my head all the way to the register, there was a woman in front of me who picked up a bottle of water (600 or maybe 750ml) and asked mow much, the reply was $5.... $5 for a bottle of water!!!, thats at least 6.66 a litre WTF is going on here... oh it was pure vitamin 100% water water.....


I'm off to Venezuela... 1c a litre petrol and free water!

They say it's inflation that takes it all ... but that mate is only a small part of them problem. We already pay over 50% tax ( including levy's 0 The UN envisages 70% + in the future ( it's aims ) And with the cashless society looming, it will know every dollar you make ... Sorry got side tracked but it might be time to go back to the barter system

And just to remind the readers, the margin on rifles in Aus. is not the same as other retail stuff - ie 200-400% markup (to allow for rent, wages, etc.), its about $100 - 200 max. (if you want to actually sell the rifle). In the 1500 cost range this equates to somewhere from 6 to 14% markup to cover "shop expenses".

Probably you best ask the importers - I cannot mention names but they set the $$$ due to the $ cost to the retailer.

Some want you to pay for 30K up front (in firearms) to just become a dealer, so if you can sustain the volume - you become a valued client, if not - your business goes under & the importer could not care less.

You then get the "internet problem" of comparing prices between countries - most do not know the "gov. cost" to a firearm, just to get if from 'there to here'.

Example: the original Glock17 cost, at the factory, some years back about $34 to make, then you have to move it to some other country & sell it, in Aus. This (with dealer, importer, gov.TAX) = manufactures' cost x 28 to x 30 in the shop.
