Illegal gun carrier held at Sydney train station

Post by veep » 25 Oct 2014, 10:05 am

How smart is this guy. Gets on a train with an unregistered rifle in a gun bag, like no one was going to pick that up with all the transit cops running around these days.

A man has been charged after he was allegedly found carrying a rifle and ammunition at a train station in Sydney's southwest.

Police say officers on patrol at Liverpool station stopped the 27-year-old on Thursday morning.

He was allegedly carrying a rifle case containing an unregistered rifle, two laser sights, ammunition and torches.

Further inquiries revealed the man was wanted in connection with an alleged break and enter at Bonnyrigg Heights in September.

He was charged with break and enter, theft and firearm offences and was granted conditional bail.

He will appear in Liverpool Local Court on November 18.

throw the book at him, assuming he was actually doing what they say he was doing.

it's possible he was taking the rifle to a dealer to be handed in......but with his criminal history, unlikely

It is pleasing to note that many criminals are just plain stupid, otherwise they could be dangerous.

Just a bit of information on that subject:

When I did my safety course way back when handing in found/unregistered firearms came up.

The dealer's advice was if you find one under the house/shed/attic wherever and are taking it to a dealer to hand in, write a letter listing the details of the firearm, your intent to take it to a dealer, and the days date.

Better to be pulled over with that than to be found with only the firearm and sound like you're just trying to bulls**t your wait out of it.

Jokes aside. I carry my longarms in a case which I use to fly with too. I have travelled with it publicly, but I can count those times on one finger. I did wonder why I didn't attract attention with this case with 4 shiny gold padlocks on it? That's a fair bit of security for an electronic keyboard isn't it? LOL In NSW we are indeed allowed to carry on public transport, so wonder why he attracted attention? Might be the balaclava he was also sporting. Dunno? ;)

I dunno about all public transport but pretty sure Melbourne trains not allow you to travel with firearms. Even though it mentions public transport including trains in the safety book.
