SFP now a registered party in VIC, what was it before?

Post by whert » 10 Nov 2014, 3:26 pm

G'day all,

A bit of a political novice here...

About a fortnight ago the Shooters & Fishers Party became "a registered political party in Victoria". Currently registered parties.

Eerm, what where they before then? They've been on the voting cards before...

There is a VIC State Election here on November 29th, don't really get what this changes but apparently it's good

Thanks.

(Not an expert but...) you need a certain number of members to be a registered party where you can actually be part of voting, government etc.

The idea is to stop thousands of crackpots having 1 or 2 man parties and wasting everyone's time.

You can call yourself one but if you're not on the register it doesn't mean anything.

Political parties do not need to be registered.

Once registered they can run candidates in a named group, ie. party name at the top of the column on the ballot paper with individuals below.

You CAN be unregistered and still run, however the candidates are individuals as far as the electoral 'authorities' and voting system is concerned....

Registration allows you to get Government money to run an election campaign .

Yeah SFP in NSW got about $250 000 I think once they were a registered party . It's been a bit of a racquet for years , you register some dumb ass party and pocket the campaign funds . One Nation did it . Isn't Democracy wonderful ? I think you get different amounts based on number of candidates or something like that .

Do they get money per vote they receive?

Hmmm id like a new 4WD kitted out. Wonder if I can scrounge 40 -50k votes towards the 'independant member WORK vehicle'?

PUP seems to take any muppet to run in regional vic haha

That's what I'm getting at....
Once you receive a certain % of first preference votes you get a payment per vote. You have to run your campaign first though. Horse before the cart

seriously, what have you/we got to lose by registering the 'Enough Gun Party' I'm sure most will chip in a few dollars for the registration.....providing the party stands for a few more things than just shooting rights...
