Wouldn't it be great to sneak gps monitors onto all the top ranks, politicians included, then send them the bill for the previous months worth of speeding infringements.
It is totally impossible to not speed in Victoria, even setting cruise control under the limit, and paying attention to the road (although your foots further from the brake pedal) sees you exceeding on downhill stretches. It's noticeably more dangerous on the roads in Vic with the number of people obsessing over their speedo's and not watching the road. Most locals around here are now travelling 10k under, which still leads to tailgaters and unsafe overtaking.
Last week there was a traffic jam on Penninsula link, at the speed distance cameras sections, because drivers were slowing to 90 or 80kmh, which rippled back up the freeway to 30kmh
It just needs a few reports like "Oh i'm sorry I hit your kid, but my speedo was reading 45kmh if that makes you feel better." In the two secs it takes to take eyes off road, focus and read an analog speedometer, and return to awareness off the road, that 45kmh car travels 25 metres, double the
circulated increase in stopping distance from 50 to 55.
