This is a done deal.....formalises the Mad Abbotts 5+round shotty 'ban'
ITs not a Bill of Parliament subject to the scrutiny of the members, but a legislative instrument, basically an 'at the whim' law making process..... Parliament (=PM) says make X the law, and the 'GG in Council' (=GG signs of what ever is put in front of him via the seat warming so-and-sos from cantberra)

I would suggest everyone reads the explanatory statement which seeks to justify this crap.... it basically says we are reviewing the state law so in the mean time we have to do this to stop people getting these shotguns... in other words the laws CURRENTLY IN PLACE we kind of dont agree with.... so do this so we dont have too many people with these shotguns pending the review....

translated;

WE KNOW the outcome of the NFA review (we told them what we want which is what the po-lees want anyhow) so may as well make it so now....

I would suggest that given that the instrument was signed off by the 'administrator' and not the GG himself; (GG must have been away); now is the time to appeal to the GG, our esteemed ex defence force no.1, YOU WOULD THINK he'd know a couple of things about firearms....and maybe, just maybe overturn the instrument!

Bonus is the the ONLY time you dont need to put a stamp on a letter that you mail via Auspost IS WHEN YOURE SENDING TO THE GG!!!!

In referencing the 1901 Customs Act, it appears that they believe they have the longstanding authority to do such a thing. Question is, why on earth would they allow such a gun to be imported when doing so means handing a huge political victory to those in favor of lessening restrictions on lawful firearms, and causes the media, the government run bureaucracy, and the anti-gun idiots in your country to go apoplectic with fear and anger?

1. Does anyone think there would be a demand in your country for a 5 shot magazine lever action, which would essentially be a 5+1.
2. Are there any domestic firearms producers in Australia who could start making an 8 shot lever action(which is still technically category A) and could perhaps bypass import restrictions?

They've done that because they must've checked up on the existing (Terminator 2) model and found it to be 5+1. This way, they can call anything above 5 as being an "advancement in gun technology". Welcome to Australia.

We wish we had a firearm manufacturer with that kind of ingenuity (and common sense).

Parliament always has a say, if they have the will.

Doesn't matter if it's not a bill from Parliament. If they want to push they can make life very uncomfortable for the people doing this.

Your local mayor has a say. All "anointed" party members have a say. Enough of them complain, the powers that be realize they won't get support from the political machine. Where do you think politicians come from? Do they have a politician farm in the state capitol? They develop relationships with business and the party on the local level. People who live in your neighborhood might have a say in who your next candidate for Parliament will be. We must infiltrate and influence all levels of government from bottom to top.

Fight on all fronts. Will it do any good? No. I've said this before - Where we stand now, we are going to have to lose a lot before we form the relationships and get the attention to win. Better get started. :)

And when the Parliament staffer says the same thing, "We can't do anything. It's not Parliament (nanny-nanny-boo-boo the buck does not stop here)" then you say the same thing I always say to you.

"You do SOMETHING. I don't care if you write them a nasty letter. I don't care if you contact the media and tell them you don't support it. I don't care if you fire one of your own staffers that has the same last name as one of these jackwaggons, whether they are related or not. I don't care if you leave a flaming bag of dog poop outside the door to their office. You do SOMETHING to justify your miserable existence, and report back to me with something."

:)

Always require action, and always demand accountability and a two-way line of communication. And never be afraid of rejection because they'll probably laugh at you the first few times :D We'll get there eventually.

Gets me thinking that if its only a limit on the importation of the gun couldnt you import a 5 shot version and then have a local gunsmith just extend the magazine?

Not sure how customs will go if paperwork has already been lodged by the importer and approved by customs to import these Adler shotguns.
Obviously they are trying to make it difficult to import these guns which are considered legal by the Police in NSW.

They still have to amend this to outlaw the Adler-
Firearm magazines-

shotgun other than self loading or pump action

Non detachable magazine 1- unlimited =Cat A
Detachable magazine- 1-5 = Cat A
Detachable magazine over 5 =prohibited weapon permit.
www.police.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/fil ... r_2012.pdf

That might be a good pdf to save, it clearly shows the Adler is Cat A.

we know its a cat A....
the feds know its a cat A
the states know its a cat A

thats why the feds have prohibited the import (the 7 shot mag version) - an action having zero regard to the firearms laws.....with a change to a law (regulation) having little connection to state gun laws....

the positive outcome of this is the they have created the situation whereby the 5+1(+1?) legally importable version of the "rapid fire" - "like a semiautomatic shotgun" version;

HAS BEEN ENDORSED AS SAFE IN CONSIDERATION OF COMMUNITY EXPECTATIONS AND ALSO WITH REGARD TO ALL THREATS INCLUDING (criminal diversion and) TERRORIST....

therefore

THERE REMAINS LITTLE REASON TO RETAIN SEMIAUTO SHOTGUNS AS A CATEGORY C FIREARM.....

the feds have therefore effectively recategorised semiauto shotties as cat A

so, once the (bull)dust settles; every state member should be in receipt of letter request the said recat of semis(and pumps of course) as an expression of the WILL of the constituent/elector, and in agreement with the actions of the federal government....

 :friends:

If there's one thing I'd like with a new NFA set of laws (if it came out to make shooting better and easier) would really, just be able to own a pump action shotgun on a Cat A license. It shouldn't have to be a Cat C just because it 'fires fast', thats bulls**t. Pump action rifles are legal and cat B, so how come pump action shottys got sent to the near-bloody impossible Cat C? Oh how I'd love to own a remington 870, and not have to do 4 miles of forms and go through 10 or so different idiots in power telling me where and how I can use it.
If something doesn't work, apply rule .303!
