Actually, from memory, the ABS and AIC show that hands and feet (no weapon) are the preferred method of homicide in Australia. Knives are next, then blunt instruments, then firearms. You still get the odd poisoning as well. "Other" includes things like strangulation.
And when it comes to knives, we aren't talking the good ones that are banned because they are too useful, either. The most common weapon is a cheap arsed kitchen knife in a domestic homicide, because domestic violence is the most prevalent form of homicide in Australia.
