If a hunter took half that many shots to kill an animal he'd be drawn and quartered by the media.

 Why couldn't they have used a counsellor or shot in the leg or used Capsicum spray?

I've sent a copy of the recommended minimum caliber for deer table to their ethical standards division.

That's for hunting though, I don't think there is a minimum calibre for humane destruction. Most injured livestock gets euthanised with the humble .22LR.

haha.. At the roadside I don't always have a rifle handy so more often than not it's a tire lever that does the job.

Did they respond yet?

If so, did they suggest you actually read the info you sent them and note they used a 40S&W, and 0.40 is greater than 0.270, and their loads are 160 odd grain which is also greater than 130gr ?? ;) (That is, compliant firearm, well load anyway)

As far as 25 shots, I call BS.... I did hear it on the rumor file, I'd say it may have been a passing comment, "what did it take, 25 rounds" or something like that...

I know the cops are not necessarily sharp shooters, but after a couple of rounds I'm sure they'd work out theyre doing something wrong..... try the head - stop shooting the leg..... :unknown:

I don't think stirring the pot with the police is a very smart idea. All you'll achieve is drawing attention to yourself.
There's every chance the next time they run your plate the computer will say "smart a$$ ... cavity search required "

Don't see 40cal pistol ammo listed anywhere on that list. Center fire rifle thru to smooth bore.. yup, all longarm (pun intended) but no pistol ammo.

You won't find pistol ammo on that list because hunting with pistols is not legal.

Have witnessed a cop needing 4 shots from his service pistol ( .40 cal Glock ? - N.S.W) to dispatch a mortally injured roo, as a result of taking on a Mazda.

Was difficult to determine, whether cop was more frightened of roo .... or his firearm. Lol

38spl , 357 mag, 44-40, 44mag ??

A few legal chamberings and 9mm luger & 45ACP have been 'done' in long arms....

We can even use the old 30 and 32 old timer rounds even the 310cadet . .... so if the M&P had a stock and a few more inches on the spout it would be different....apparently....

Most American cops carry a rifle, AR-15, or a 12 gauge shotgun in their cruisers. But in the police's "defense" most cops would not have the foggiest idea where to shoot an animal to put it down, or finish it off.
I've been asked: "How many guns do you need to have?" My answer remains the same: "One more."

Most cops in 'straya would also have access to rifles and shotguns, I'm not sure if there actually carry them as a standard practice... anywhere out side of metro Melbourne, particularly the east for Deer, the north for Roos( and the northeast) we are quite likely to come across these animals, as such there is no excuse for the 'law' not to be instructed/advised with 'how' to deal with them, both alive causing grief, or mortally wounds on the verge of the road.

I suspect after this 25 rounds fiasco, either true or not; there will be a memo going around specifying perhaps shot placement in the event..... :)

If I recall one of the boys in blue did a similar thing with a roo a while back.

Seemingly no idea about anything and just near-emptied a clip into the downed roo randomly.

Could it be as simple and innocent as a lack of understanding of nerves? I remember in my younger days wanting to put more and more shots into an animal thinking it was still alive because of it's nerves reactions and had to be taught of such things.

I could see it being possible a police officer who knows nothing about hunting or killing animals was still thinking the poor thing was alive and putting multiple rounds one after another into it because it was still twitching?

Don't know about the .38 or .375 mag but I know from experience you can load 44 mag rifles to higher pressures than handguns and rifles shoot at higher velocity with greater accuracy.

Anyways, I think the humor of my post was lost on some posters.. oh well :)

Seriously I can't believe that complete incompetence from a cop would actually surprise anyone! Have you ever seen them doing their once a year compulsory shoot at a range? Most couldn't hit the side of a barn but are entrusted to carry a firearm in public completely unlicensed ! The Lindt siege should be enough proof of their incompetence. Being shot by the idiots that are "supposed" to be protecting you......NO THANKS!
It's not banned in Queensland but you just can't have one!
