Gold Medal in Female Trap Shooting... BOO YAH!

Post by Angel » 08 Aug 2016, 6:03 am

CATHERINE Skinner has become Australia’s newest Olympic champion.
The 26-year-old delivered the performance of her life to win the gold medal match in the women’s trap shooting at the Deodoro range to tip Kiwi Natalie Rooney in a thrilling finish.
Skinner hit 12 of the 15 targets in the final, needing to hit her final target of the competition to win 12-11.
American Corey Cogdell ended up with bronze to replicate her third place in Beijing in 2008.
Skinner incredibly had to survive a shoot-off in the preliminary rounds to even qualify for the semi-finals.
After that early scare, Skinner’s double barrel shotgun proved the most accurate.
Red-eyed and clearly emotional, Skinner couldn’t believe she is the new Olympic champion.
Double trap Olympic gold medallist Russell Mark told Channel 7 Skinner’s life is about to change.
“She’ll wake up tomorrow and think it’s been a dream,” Mark said.
“Everyone will know her now. She’s quite an introvert. She’s not an extrovert. She’s going to have to change that for the next 48 hours and probably the next four years.”
It was the first time two Australians had competed together in an Olympic trap final, with Melbourne’s Laetisha Skinner qualifying first with a score of 70 from 75.
She narrowly missed out on a spot in the bronze medal match to finish fifth.
Skinner picked up shotgun shooting living in Mansfield in country Victoria, then methodically honed her craft over the past decade.

That moment when she shot the final round and knew she had won then Having to wait for the Kiwi to shoot her final clay! Golden moment!

The look on her face.. That's what the Olympics is about!

She's just had a press conference, standard questions, how did you get into it, how long....etc...

Then the GUNS questioning.....you could see the emotion in her face, she seemed to be on the verge of tears....because those leaches cant lay off and look past the 'evil gun' thing.... ..... when they interview the swimmers, they dont say to them how could you ump into a pool, so many kids are killed by doing the same.....maybe they should

She shouldn't feel the need to defend her sport, especially right after winning at the ollies.

Congratulations to Ms. Skinner. Where a part of me wants to see the USA win all the Gold. I can't think of another country I'd prefer the USA to loose out to. And yes I saw our gal got the Bronze.
I've been asked: "How many guns do you need to have?" My answer remains the same: "One more."

The thing I like the most about Ms Skinners win is the way she handled herself when she won, on the podium and all the interviews.

There was no yahooing, no high giving, no carry on. Humility and humble.

Unless the so called swimmers who think they are rock stars and call each other drug cheats and continually fail despite the $400 million spent there.

I think she embodied what an Olympic champion is...

I think a few people may be surprised that a young shot gunner from Australia would know what a state of Zen is and how it is relevant to shooting sports!

The majority of Trap shooters I've had 'the pleasure' of sharing a space with, have been tedious / boresome / anti- social and selfish in the extreme.

This young Lady has a few things in her favour ( according to my reckoning )

...... She shoots DOUBLE TRAP and ...
Is a member of the fairer sex.
