The Phantom Tassie Fox returns -

Post by RoginaJack » 02 Nov 2016, 5:08 pm

Yep, the phantom Tassie fox is still alive and well, not this one perhaps but the rumour of sightings etc still is. The local newspaper, The Examiner has a front page story on it.

http://www.examiner.com.au/story/426601 ... t/?cs=5312

Nest time I'm down around the Lonnie region, I'll take the .222 and the old tin fox whistle and see if I can call up one or two.

Anyone in Tassie ACTUALLY shot one of these pests?

Not that far from Devonport. So could have hitched a ride on the ferry or one of the regular ships from Melbourne.

Should get Gwion on the job.

Bah ha!

This old chestnut!?!

I am convinced there is a limited population of foxes in Tas. I know at least 2 people who swear to have seen them. Problem is that 90% of the population will be saying that some scientist planted that carcass in order to get more grant money!!!

This might be a good test for the new (ish) 303-22 I've got in the works.

I have actively looked for a fox in my area, my neighbour swears he has seen one, and did have the " fox patrol" in the area. I have not seen one and I am out and about everyday. Ref the two heads, I have found it hard to argue with myself, but great for multitasking. :wtf: :problem:
I hope there is no fox population in Tas but would not be surprised when / if one is found / trapped live.

Yeah, I sort of lean a bit towards the "hitched a ride on the boats" theory. I've travelled around Tassie a bit and haven't come or seen any signs of them BUT....
Around Lonnie the rabbits don't pay any attention to the Blue Healer, so I don't think the local bunnie population is educated about foxes.
I find it's the extra thumbs cause more problems, especially when using a hammer.

Incorporated it into a general feral control project to encompass cats and such as well.

Got wound down in a lot of places I think.

Starting up again now though, VIC are bringing back and increasing dog and fox bounties at the moment I think.

Update om the Phantom Tassie Fox.

Appears that security getting stuff into Tassie is very, very lax. If a fox carcass can be bought into the island, what else is coming in?

Great reporting there, so the fox is a hoax but it really is the body of a real fox, hmmm. Must be one of those two headed reporters

Yep, appears it was smuggled in to Tassie from Victoria. So much for border security, if that gets through what else, I wonder??

Yes, Gwion, right on.
There has been a Illegal gun manufacturing setup discovered here in Qld that has the Media going nuts. This sort of shoots the Greens theory to bits about where the weapons are coming from too.

Wouldn't be surprised if there is a fox or two down in Taz, although you'd think there would be at least something to show on a trail cam, kinda like the cougars that get around Victoria :D

Yeah it's a shame the grow into such menaces to the environment hey. And yeah I'm with you they are rarer than hens teeth, funny how one mysteriously shows up just as the whole fox thing is about to be wound up (clearly someone likes the gravy train). :D
