Police Minister Lisa Neville said the Government had no plans to change the register.
“The register has been an important part of Victoria’s firearms laws since 1983, designed to improve public safety,” she said.

Design failure I see it, I'd be putting the question to Lisa Neville to prove otherwise.

This poll, as with any pro-gun result - will go nowhere as it doesnt support the accepted narrative:
Guns bad.
More guns more Bad.
Less guns good.
More controls Good.

Lisa Neville always states, how things are important but never give hard confirming evidence why and how. Makes here argument look weak when someone else reals of a heap of facts against here argument.
All we ask is for politicians, and government representatives to give a good explanations and reasons why, so we can decide if they are making dissensions on facts, not emotions or self interest. Obviously there are no decent facts or evidence so thats why we hear the same rubbish again and again.

But it can't be!!! The media tells us that the majority of Australians want tighter gun laws, surely it must be a mistake. :sarcasm:

yeah, it's not just the registry. If you want to hunt deer or birds you are forced to pay for a game license. For the privilege your private details get let loose on the internet.

Its about 'open' government.... :P

Perhaps a little too open??
Imagine how the pollies would react if the parliamentary members database was..... 'leaked'....I have this picture of armed squads going door to door of every house in the STATE.... confiscating computer and connected devices.... just for public safety

It's bloody encouraging that well over 90% of the votes are for abolishing it!

That just means it will get quietly put away and no fuss made of the result. However, if they asked 200 fagtards in Martin Place the same question the result would be "proof" of the "overwhelming" majority of Australians opinions on the matter.

You can NOT imagine how right you are.... perhaps you do....

Back in 96, literally hours after the 'incident' the age conducted a poll, that is used up to this day to ustify tough gun control measures and is available to members of parliament as worthy information;

After Port Arthur - Issues of Gun Control in Australia
Current Issues Brief 16 1995-96

................In an Age poll of 2058 Australians taken on 3-5 May 1996, 90 per cent of those surveyed supported a national ban on all automatic and semi-automatic firearms, 88 per cent supported firearms registration, 73 per cent thought that gun owners should pay an annual registration fee for each gun they own, and 69 per cent thought that gun owners should be required to store their guns at an armoury or with the police.

Apart from the glaring fact that all questions can be constructed to derive the necessary response, and reporting is subject to the whims of the reporter, and emotive responses would be guaranteed, especially after so many deaths, including several little kids....they could have asked whether bananas should be banned, because they were served AT THE CAFE!!! evil bananas....

But this is MP required reading.....policy based on 1852 people.... real or imaginary.... all they need is a result. if those people responded with "it was one guy, don't base a judgement on all firearm owner present and future" .... it would form part of a parliamentary brief....

Vic Police Minister Lisa Neville said in the report that the government had no plans to change the register.
There must be a name for it, but I detect a political law at work.
Back when the National Agreement on Firearms was being introduced, if a politician said it would never happen, it would have been a sign that it was going to happen. The political momentum was there.
About 20 years later, momentum has been replaced by inertia. Now if a politician has to say the registry won't be changed, it's a sign that it will, or could be.
