SFFP on the offensive

Post by Gun-nut » 31 May 2017, 9:34 pm

Have read at these amendments the SFFP are trying to push in the latest firearms bill. Here is a summary of the amendments they are trying to push below as well as the link of the original pages I found from the FOU facebook page.

https://www.facebook.com/Firearmownersu ... =3&theater

• Keeping lever-action shotguns in Category A
• Reclassifying pump-action shotguns to Category B
• Allow handguns to be used for private land hunting
• Introducing "Family and Home Protection" as a genuine reason for owning a firearm
• Allowing firearms licences to be collected from a Service NSW Centre in-person rather than being posted in the mail
• Compelling the NSW Police Force Commissioner to justify decisions made to impose licence conditions
• Compelling the Police Commissioner to justify reasons for suspending an individual's firearms licence
• Only allowing the suspension of a firearms licence if the licence-holder has been convicted of a crime (currently a suspension can occur whether or not they have been actually convicted)
• Compelling the Police Commissioner to provide reasons for not issue a licence or permit to acquire or firearms licence
• Removing the recording of names and addresses for the purchase and sale of ammunition
• Allowing standard, legal, factory-crimped magazines to be used for handguns
• Establishing an independent Firearms Ombudsman
• Requiring a Commissioner's delegate with authority over firearms matters to have appropriate training and expertise in firearms
• Removing the laws allowing objects with the "appearance" of a firearm to be treated as a firearm by the Police
• Removing restrictions on firearms suppressors
• Making paintball a sport by removing it from the Firearms Act
• Allowing people additional time to produce evidence of permission to shoot on private land, when requested
• Introduce a permanent firearms amnesty for the disposal of firearms

Let's all get behind this and do as best we can to see that as much of these amendments get through.

Any word on how many of the amendments made it through.

My guess would be zero.

I'm super pumped about handgun hunting on private land. If it goes through....

Handgun hunting? Don't think I'll get too excited about that, just make sure lots of Baked Beans cans are in the cupboard for dinner.

I'm curious why they didn't try and move semi-auto .22lr to Cat B while they're at it.

While none of these amendments may get through, this sets a precedent for further political action. Through this we know who we can trust and who we can't. Perfect in time for the state elections. We need to get our voices heard from now and when the time comes to vote beneath the line for pro-gun parties to avoid preferences going to the majors. While it may not seem like much now, this is a great start.

Damn straight and you know what I have been beating on the sffp for greyhounds etc and not doing anything for shooting.

However this (how much of a stunt I don't know) has changed that opinion for a while. Maybe it was a dog and pony show.

But hopefully it will stir shooters in NSW to finally back the sffp.

Next election let's get more of them into the upper and lower house.

Let's make them a political animal that can actually hold the balance in NSW.

"Allow handguns to be used for private land hunting"
&
"Removing restrictions on firearms suppressors"

Would be very welcome changes I'd say.

But what are the actual chances these will get through? I guess, extremely slim.

Thanks for sharing Bullzeye. That is indeed an eye opener.

So the major parties don't believe authorities require knowledge of what they are doing when it comes to firearms. (At least that's how I read "Ensure delegates excercisingt he police commissioner's authority have the appropriate knowledge and training"). I knew the government leaned one way when it comes to firearms, but this is just.... wow.

Given that, it's no wonder they voted against the rest of what is actually a reasonable list of bills.

I'll be circulating this quite a bit. Thanks for posting!

The fact that nothing on this perfectly fair and reasonable list was passed just prompted me to become a member of the party. If the LNP can spend the duration of a conference debating the requirement for sex-specific crossing signals, then it's time to stand with a party that actually represents my interests.
