The article says it took about 10 secs to hit the target... Surely that can't be right. Even if the shot was at 3000fps that should take 5 seconds at most...

It loses velocity as it goes though, doesn't it. I just ran a table on my normal 308 round (which I know has nothing like the power of what he was using) and by the time the bullet is 1000 yards downrange it says velocity has dropped by 2/3rds.

For the 50 time of flight at 2000 yards is 3.888 seconds. I don't have data past that. 10 seconds for 3000+ meters sound right.

I have data from my TAC50 for Hornady factory ammo of the type used by the U.S / Canadian military. The 750Gr AMAX exists the muzzle at 2756fps and at 3450m it's traveling at 852fps with 1209 ft-lb of energy with a flight time of approx. 8.8 seconds. The shot is possible given the right conditions and still plenty of punch to be fatal and from another source it wasn't a first shot kill, apparently there were 2-3 shots leading up to the hit.
How's my posting?

At 3000m I'd misjudge the target!
