Australia to Join the Arms Race?

Post by RoginaJack » 29 Jan 2018, 9:59 am

In today's 9News report, our Prime Minister, Mr Turnbull has announced that Australia will commence manufacturing military weapons for overseas. The plan is to be in the top 10 suppliers in the next 10 years. We currently sit at 20.

The aim is jobs, jobs etc. :o

I feel that we should be manufacturing all of our defence equipment and ordinance in Australia.

See the following:-
https://www.9news.com.au/national/2018/ ... s-strategy

Well, I'm surprised because G.C. Precision Development in the ACT were to manufacture, test and supply Suppressors and rifles (with folding stocks) to the Victorian Police Force. The ACT refused the application to test equipment and the ACT court upheld the decision and G.C. closed down. This is despite the fact the the ACT Government have used suppressors since 2009 in culling purposes. This was pointed out to the court and was suggested by the court that this may have been illegal.
See the following -

My question is "Where were you Mr Prime Minister, when a Australian company needed assistance"?
Also, does this now mean the the N.F.A. and Federal, state and territories rules, regulations and law will need to be changed?

About time! I am sure greentards will be told to f-off, when government money and profit is involved. They are irrelevant and their opinions are less so, in this context. So, if they can actually get some contacts and execute on it, it'd be amazing.

I'm guessing Australia because of AUD at the right price and quality of workmanship and QA process. So doubtful.

I think that is one reason why the government is getting local manufacturing tooled up, especially with China's build up around the Asia area.

It might be just to find some work for the already defense industry builders such as Tenix or who ever they are now at Williamstown dockyard, Australian Submarine Corp in SA and others in WA and around the country.

Well there are a few empty factories that would be well suited to Bushmaster vehicle production......kill one industry to make space for another.

I'm only half joking, having been through them all I'd pick the Altona Toyota plant :drinks: Though I think Toyota have plans for most of it.
