Super simplex - yes or no?

Post by knowsnothin » 11 Jan 2017, 3:49 pm

Ive been given a super simplex press, was rusty by it came up all right (useable).

As far as i can tell these require proprietary dies and will not take the standard 7/8 dies.

Worth keeping as i need to start reloading?

or flog it and buy RCBS kit?

Dies are readily available to a staggering array of calibres and many millions of trouble free rounds have been loaded on them. I have one and love it.

+1. Enjoy. We're one of the cheaper options once. Not sure now.

I thought I'd heard something along those lines. I have the Simplex Master Press, built like a brick ****** and bigger than the RCBS Rock Chucker by a good margin if memory serves me correctly. I had the Super Simplex as a kid, 6 turret head and I really liked it and would still have it if it wasn't for a drug f***ed friend.

I got given one of these presses awhile back with a bunch of different dies. Used it recently to knock up some 357's cos I was doing a one off load and didn't want to adjust my progressive press. The dies weren't labelled and I had no instructions but found some on the net, once I'd sorted that out I found this to be one of the most consistent and easy reloading setups I've ever used.

The biggest downsides are the oddball die size and it's inability to FLS. I'm going to keep using this press for straight wall cases that I only need small volume of. If you're only doing rifle calibres or need to FLS every time I'd go for a traditional O frame press though.

I would say yes,Simplex are still in business in Sydney & have a mail order service &online shop www.simplexreloading.com.au
I use them a lot as my press is a Super simplex & all my dies, case trimmer &bullet puller are Simplex.i was given a Simplex Master "O" frame press & dies i can FLS with it a very strong simple press has a primer catcher as well.Only down side is the cost of postage if you use mail order, but in my case the nearest gunshop is 75km away so mail order isnt too bad.Good luck

Lover the super simplex,
I have 3 of them so i don't need to set up the turrent for the different sizes.
All the pistol rounds i use are FLR but the bottle neck rifles are just neck resizing but as i only use the cases for one rifle it's no biggie.
I can use the 30-30 neck size dies for the 308 as well and 303 brit for 7.62 x 54R as both are .312
every time i make a phone order to www.simplexreloading.com.au the very professional staff get my order to me fast

I have a Super Simplex, which I intend to load .357 magnum with. I have not played with it much yet, but I am curious about die set up. Do I screw the FLS die down to touch shell holder to get set up? I have not loaded much straight wall stuff. Any tips greatly appreciated.
