Hey guys,
Was at my LGS just checking stuff out when I walked over to the bargain table and spied an old steel scope laying there. It was dusty and rusty but still caught my eye.
On closer inspection I saw that it was an old steel Weaver 'Challenger' 4 power USA. It came with mounts plus an extra mount was fitted - presumably to hold a spotlight.
When I finally got hold of the guy behind the counter and asked how much, he casually looked it over and said $20! Sold!
As soon as I got home I took the mounts off and fitted them to my .22 (which I'd been planning to scope for months now) and gave the scope a good clean. All the dust, rust, grime came right off and it cleaned up awesome. And the lenses were in great nick. The crosshairs were pretty fine but razor sharp.
I straight away fitted it to my Winchester M70 .338WM and it sure looked the part. I've been looking for a straight 4x for it and hopefully the Weaver does the trick and anyway for $20 (+ mounts that I fitted to my .22), I can't really lose.
As an extra bonus, it has really generous eye relief, so I was able to mount it as far forward as possible. This is a good thing as there is no rubber eye piece! Heck, I may have to rename this particular scope the 'scar maker'!
Cheers,
Russ.
