Now you've got me wondering !!!
I'd just assumed all LA101 barrels would be hammer forged - But they do state that the 17HMR's are "button broached".

Most rifling is created by either:
cutting one groove at a time with a machine tool (cut rifling or single point cut rifling);
cutting all grooves in one pass with a special progressive broaching bit (broached rifling);
pressing all grooves at once with a tool called a "button" that is pushed or pulled down the barrel (button rifling);
forging the barrel over a mandrel containing a reverse image of the rifling, and often the chamber as well (hammer forging);
flow forming the barrel preform over a mandrel containing a reverse image of the rifling (rifling by flow forming)

I'm starting to get a bit collection of Lithgow's (22, 243, 308) and I absolutely love them, was thinking about getting the 17hmr version as my next purchase but the 223 version just arrived at my local in the last week so now I'm torn between the two......decisions decisions....maybe I should just go for both....then this will mean I'll have to get 22 mag to complete the set... :thumbsup:

I probably won't see it for a while as it will be going to my smith to get the trigger done to my specs bedded and have the lugs lapped .

First impressions & a picture or two would be appreciated, Darren.
My wife "borrowed" my walnut 22LR on Monday and actually shot a fly which just happened to land on her target whilst she was in the process of shooting a 5 shot group at 50 yards :D

ok First impressions are it is worth every cent (if it shoots) I never thought I would say this about a 22 for this kind of money 8-)

there not cheap here ($1139) stock is very well made and after a bit of a ply at home it seems to be exactly what they say

very comfy prone on the bench and of hand which I could never say about my cz American :( .

so far I have one major criticism and that is these clowns could actually give CZ lessons on how to fit a s**t trigger on a fimfire :lol:

standard of finish they could give every one else lessons on this rifle is very well done .

now I have to wait for my scope ( money money money never enough) will be months away bugger it .

Very nice deye243, the black ceracote looks schmick with the timber stocks....have to agree with the finish on the Lithgows, a few of the boys at my local have toured the factory and they wonder how Lithgow Arms are making money out of these things with the attention to detail and amount of time they spend going through QC etc.

What's going on top mate?

I have a cheap Nikko Stirling Game King Scope 3-9x40 I think it is, the first one I had on a .22 it might not be as powerful to suit the 17 but a good start

I decided to get the 22 as the LGS told me there was no 17s for a few months so I ordered a 22 + I have 3000 odd rounds for 22lr here

from when I had the cz 22 . but as it turns out they have 7 in stock oh well that just means I will just have to make it a pigeon pair so I will

end up with 2 101s 8-)

Great pics. Darren - Black laminated looks good too.
Don't fret too much about the trigger - I think you'll find it adequate once your smith works a little magic on it.
First one of mine was 42-44 ozs. with a fair amount of creep. Second broke consistently at 38 with virtually no creep. One is now at 18 & the other 15 - Zero creep in either and I have no complaints jumping from Anschutz single stage to the LA101 triggers in the same session.
Re the scope, if you're stuck, I always keep a spare Leupold 3-9X33EFR fine duplex here _ it's my initial test scope and just so happens to be set up in Leupold LOW PRW rings which will drop straight into your bases as I used it last on my latest LA101. (PM if interested).

Gee I like the black cerakote with the timber/laminate, it's grown on me so much so that I think I prefer it over the titanium now, used to be the other way around.
I'm looking at getting a Lithy in 22 wmr, think I'll go the laminate and black combo...

Yeah always the way.....I've shot mine in some pretty average conditions and it still goes very well, that was after it had been zeroed in though when conditions were more favourable.
I reckon they are great rifles, I love the shape of the stock, looks good and fits the body nicely. Would be good to see them bring a few more options out but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I have a crap memory rsj223 were you the one that had all the probs and got a refund .

I know the pain in that and it is the main reason that I will only build a centre fire and will

not have another factory rifle (other than a HOWA) in my safe .
