You dont see the point??

I believe that any Aussie shooter, should help preserve our heritage, including the firearms our forefathers used.....its important to look 'forward' as well as 'back' to where we've been....

To me it means owning the type of rifle my g-grandfather carried in France Exactly 100yrs ago....

People of other heritage should also aspire to own the military arms of their forefathers, no matter which nation....because lets face it... the forces seeking to obliterate such items of history are numerous, and powerful/vocal.

I've met lots and lots of shooters that would never own or shoot a milsurp purely because of the remote possibility it may have been used to kill somebody.
Pretty weird reasoning in my opinion.

I'd say if its a milsurp that did actually return from the battlefield of WW1 or WW2.....then there would be a good chance it did.....

Still a pretty remote chance I reckon, especially here where rifles have traveled through a long chain of inspections before hitting our civilian market. I think the vast majority of soldiers never fired a shot in anger, and most that did never hit anybody, although that's probably higher for the Russians and Germans, and possibly the Japanese. And lots of rifles that were in heavy combat would've probably been scrapped due to battle damage and heavy wear from the environments they were used in.
Anything that still shoots half decently now probably never left rear echelon areas.

Not interested in a flintlock either.
Doesn't mean I think someone else should not be into them; it's just that I am not.

Wouldn't mind a broad sword, though. Not saying you should buy one.

I use firearms for the everyday purposes I use them for. I have no need or desire for an old milsurp because there are other firearms that suit my needs more readily.

If you're a military buff, good for you but not all shooters have to be and the history of firearms use is not exclusively about war.

Yep, I'd say a history buff more so than a military buff.... perhaps a 'student of history'....I like to maintain a connection with our past.

Neither do I have any interest in a flintlock, but swords yes...I was handed down a sword as used by the 'Victorian Mounted Rifles' though I only use it to open Champagne nowadays..... my mounted charging days have past..

Owned 2,sold both in a fit of stupidity. The first one the barrel was that worn it keyholed at 25m,so I converted it to 308 single shot and killed my first sambar with it. It was dated 1907. Sacrilege, but I was young.
Second one was a sporterised mark 3 I think with a 4x pecar scope with a post reticle. After I cleaned it up it proved to be one of the best hunting rifles I ever owned. Regularly shot 1.5" groups at 100m with factory core lokt ammo, and bang thumped everything I shot it at.
An honourable mention was a mates sporterised sniper version that I shot once. The standard peep allowed extremely fine shooting at close range, and the adjustable peep allowed me to hit a head sized rock at over 400m 9/10 shots freehand. Amazing rifle. The idiot took the peeps off and chucked a tasco scope on it coz "its a sniper rifle". At least he didn't paint it black though !

Hi,
new to the forum and just picked up a Savage No:4 mk:1* .
I have only put 40 rounds downrange so i'm still getting used to it.
My LGS was cleaning out their gun safe so i was invited down to look through and one of the selections was the .303

I do a lot of my own reloading, I work on the firearms, he just provides them and picks the ones special to him, as he's had 40 years of it already. Either way, like father like son, we form as one when I refer to 'I', no post-affixiation required.
