FN Five-seveN PTA is in.

Post by andreweden » 21 Jun 2017, 11:06 pm

12 months down and I can now get another centrefire handgun.
Looking forward to something a bit different.
Shame the 250 acres we have is not big enough for it to be for pest control on the property.

I wonder how long the PTA will take? (QLD weapons licensing)
The wife and mother in law had fairly good turn arounds on their AB licences and both are 2 months into their 6 months under supervision at the pistol club.

Also interested in whether I can get any gunshop to import anything other than the American Eagle ammo.

My local store keeps it and appears to have plenty, but I haven't seen it elsewhere.

A word of advice, Don't. I recently added the FN FiveSeven to my collection and it's possibly the least accurate thing I've encountered, lucky to group 5" at 7m. I'm going to reserve final judgement till I get a chance to put some reloads through it. All the reviews rave about how accurate it is but with the American Eagle FMJ's I'm yet to see it. By all means grab one, they have bugger all recoil and don't seem to get very dirty.

Managed to talk to enough people to find a way.
Brett, I'll be interested to see how they go. I am keen to see if I can get some of the FN ammo imported.

Good stuff.

In NSW - Hand gun PTA's have been taking close to 4 weeks lately. Maybe they have a large backlog or just great at stalling..

I'd be very interested to hear how you find the accuracy, I'm assuming it was American Eagle ammunition you got hold of cause there isn't much choice. I'm swamped with work and reloading for other people at the moment but I have a load on paper, the dies, shell holder, projectiles and a big bag of once fired brass from Wayne that I'll get into when time permits.

I have been reading a few things on the net about how the FN needs a different grip due to the lightness of the pistol and different recoil profile compared to a regular pistol with much heavier projectiles. Haven't had a chance to explore that yet but something to think about if you have the same issues with accuracy as I do.
